Just a quick one, here, as I can't pick up the 'Miniature Rules' until Thursday (Payday ... so ... far ... away ...) but got to sneak a peak at it early...

Industrial Mechs. I saw how to work out the internal structure weight, how ICE engines work (gah!), and the price for said engines, but, I didn't see any notation about teh oddball internal structure costing less than the norm? Anyone have info for me?

Also, are the cockpits still teh same cost and weight as a standard issue, despite the lack of life support, heat controls, and other *kinda* important bits? I mean, not even an ejection system? Yikes!

WHy would you need an Ejection seat. It's not like the Mech would have cause to use it. It's for work, not play...

I could see guys using the ejection seat to maximize their break times, kinda hard on company machines.

Well on a more serious side I could see a industrial mech needing one. Albeit rarely. But if say, its a forestry mech cought in a wildfire, its more beneficial to save the pilot then to lose both.

OD you could try using the small cockpit rules for the mech. Not sure ATM what the cost of the small cockpit is.

Well, ejecting into a forest fire isn't exactly the smartest thing I can think of.

To me, ejection seats are for when you need to exit the vehicle PDQ. I doubt any industrial mech, when used as originally intended, will ever get into a situation where this is necessary. If the pilot does get into trouble, they can usually just undo the seat belt and skedaddle. Also, most industrial mechs work in environments where ejection isn't safe to begin with. I don't know about you, but if my industrial mech breaks down in a mineshaft, I'm not ejecting. I'll just radio in the problem, and if there is a need to leave, I'll unstrap, climb down, and either hoof it out of there or hitch a ride with someone else.

Mainly, tho, I'm just looking for the financial cost of an Industrial chassis. Seems that it wouldn't be quite the same as standard issue, due to the different numbers, but.

Anywho, that's just me.

Well since ideally a forest firefighting mech would(and should) be on the outskirts fo the fire to begin with or close to it ( a 100 yards or less) Ejecting to saftey is feasable if necessary.

I wouldn't ejevct anywhere near a fire if I could avoid it. If the wind catches the parachute and blows you the wrong way, you're extra crispy. And fires are known for playing hell with winds (watch the movie "Always" for an idea).

To make matters worse, if you're blown near the fire, your parachute could catch fire. Then you get to be a splat before you become the Colonel's latest secret recipe.

I'll unbuckle myself and skedaddle the old fashioned way if I ever find myself with a disabled firefighter mech on the edge of a forest fire (assuming there is no fireproof/resistent life support).

OD, I would guess figuring control component weight the same way it is figured for vehicles, since an industrial mech is more of a vehicle than a Battlemech in some ways.

True forgot about the whole wind thing. But I can still see a sue for it. (I'd have to think longer on the situation but I would rather have the option of being able to eject than not being able to eject.) Its one of the reasons that the Spider isnt one of my favorite mechs since if you read the fluff it has no eject seat.

In a combat mech, ejection seats are critical. The saving grace of the Spider is that it is usually hard to hit in the first place.

Reading the fluff on other mechs, I'm also leery of the Vindicator (that bump on teh way out can be nasty) and a few other designs. I think the Catapult had a problem with the sideways ejection system, and the Wasp LAM has teh rear ejection system.

On the other hand, the Hatchetman and all of teh other mechs that eject the whole head assembly are particularly nice since that saves you from suffering nasty environmental effects that would harm or kill other ejecting pilots (vacuum, anyone?).

Of course those whole head ejection systems assume that it hasn't been terribly damaged. It would be interesting to see a Hatchman's head taking off after being hit by a PPC.

True, but when ejecting in a live-fire situation (which is almost always when a mechwarrior ejects), I'd like to have as much between me and the incoming fire as possible. Even though ejecting pilots are by tradition considered to be no longer a combatant, "accidents" happen all the time.

Of course, if the cockpit is thoroughly mangled by battle damage, it could make things harder on the pilot. They could be pinned in (jaws of life!!!) or the metal could still be glowing hot from the weapon fire, causing all kinds of nasty injuries to the pilot.

It seems the safest thing is to not get in a mech in the first place, but there's no fun in that...
