I have to say that I witnessed the worst Strike/Ball calling of the year so far when I watched Joe West umpire (if that's what you call it) the Red Sox/Yankees game. I don't mind if you're gonna call a small strike zone or a wide one, but be freakin' consistent!!!
Bases loaded, 2-2 count on the hitter, a pitch on or just off the inside corner called a ball. He's called that a strike off and on all night!! If I were the catcher I would've done a lot more than just curse at him after the game.
Anyways, I'm done vending. I hate having to watch my team score 4 runs in the ninth to tie it only to have the game decided by a lousy umpire. Makes me want the strike zone called by a computer even more now than ever! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I just saw the call on ESPN....if that isn't a strike to him he shouldn't be an umpire.

It's the Inconsistency that drives the most people insane. Be a good Ump or a Lousy Ump, but make it the same for both teams!!!!

Exactly!! Lowe was getting squeezed early in the game. Wasn't getting any of the calls. But I saw Mussina and even Rivera in the ninth get several questionable calls. just be consistent man, that's all we ask. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I saw a Mariners - Twins game, and the Strike zone changed for every pitcher. Why????

I love baseball. but I cant watch it every time I do I end up screaming at the idiot umpire.
My hope is that someday (VERY SOON) that we have lazer sensors calling the strike zone. Give the umpire a earpiece and every time it breaks the correct plane they get a buzz in their ear then they call the strike. Its completely doable they just have to take the time to set it up and test it.

Naturally the umpires union would scream and shout over that if it ever happened. But then again, that union has almost no clout anymore. Not after they screwed themselves a few years back. Ahhhh... I love idiot union heads. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I just glad that I'm not the only one that feels the same way about this issue. It seems to me every year the Umps get worse and worse and no one does anything about it. And to top it all off they want the game to go by faster. Personally I love long games and hitters who work the counts and the pitchers to their favor.
