IMHO? Disarmament was one of the worst ideas that ever hit the country. Now's the time when we should consider building the military *and* our arsenals back up.

i can agree yet disagree here.

in one hand we need our military and a way to insure survival.

in the other, we ABSOLUTLY NEED to reassure the world were not going to just displace any government we dislike.

as much as i HATE it, The US needs to kiss ass otherwise the world will turn on use like a scared dog before a human who just wants to help.

that which makes use great also requires our involvment in foriegn affairs. because it helps to reassure the dog that we do in deed mean it no harm.

IMHO we need to not reduce or increase the size of our armed forces but instead streamline them. even better equipment, new tactical support weapons like MOAB, etter jets, new munitions. requiring less cost, less men, and seeming a smaller international threat.

the idea of a replacement for the M1 thats half the weight yet equal in strength is a nice proposition.

my 2 dollars [damn inflation]

In case you haven't heard, the US spends more on weapons and military equipment than any other nation. The 2002 bugdet was about 360 billion dollars, and the Pentagon still wanted more. Estimated 396.1 billion this year. Only Japan (?) has a larger defense budget (56.6 billion) than the INCREASE in the US spending!

Building more nukes? What for?

IMNSHO opinion, the nuclear arms race was the highest folly in human story.

I was posting this news because I found it humorous Actually the saber rattling by the Russians is just empty posturing, they are so desperate to hang onto their former superpower status that this exercise is just that, all pretense.

Actually, the Russian military is in such a sorry state that the only way they have to keep enemies at bay is to remind them they have nukes and they will resort to them if desperate enough. And who could blame them?

That's why of the emphasis on tactical nukes.

Anyway, the biggest threat is not the Russians or the Chinese, but that some loon like OBL gets a nuke.

I agree. A terrorist with a nuke is a no-win situation. Suppose you catch him with it? He won't care, he'll just detonate it and take whoever and whatever is around with him. Even it's not his original target, he will blow something up with it. You're basically damned either way. Unless of course, he has some demands, and you can stall him to try something else.

Call it another good reason to keep nukes to a minimum. The more of something you have, the less likely you are to notice when one is missing.

you guys are right, with countries nukes are used for leverage, China, Russia, hell even North Korea all want more trade with us and with use nukes (either by trying to make them or agreeing to get rid of them) to further that end. However terrorist intend to use them, I don't know what motovates them, I'm not real fond of the crap the US pulls (and I live here) but I'm not runing around blowing stuff up in protest. HOWEVER I feel the war with Iraq was justified and we had every right to take Saddam down my problem is the fact that we're trying to set up the kind of Government that we want and the Iraqis (understandable) won't stand for it.

(Edit) Sorry I got off on a rant and got off topic.

Actually, whether or not the Iraqis like what we are doing in Iraq bears an amazing relationship to which channel you are getting your news from. Which basically means watch Fox news since the others routinely slant everything to keep America from looking good for any reason.

CNN knew all about the torture chambers back during the Gulf War over a decade ago, but they decided Americans did not need to know about it. Fox news on the other hand says "We report, you decide" and they strive to mean every word of it.

That is why Fox went from nothing to the top news channel in the world in a few years. While even during the invasion of Iraq, CNN's ratings were dropping as were ABC, NBC, and CBS during newstime. I guess people are finally getting tired of watching liberal/socialist news anchors who can't say anyting positive about a conservative without sneering or injecting some snide remark along with it.

And actually, it is America that has been keeping the nukes to minimum. It is those other countries like Russia and China that keep on building more and seeking to improve on the devastation they can inflict, and all those nukes are still aimed at US, I might add. And it is small nations like North Korea who want nukes to use as a threat against any nation that might want to protect the North Korean people from the madmen who rule them.

For a while in NK back in the 90s, the famine brought on by Marxist ideals of govt got so bad that people were literally engaging in cannabilism. Several journalist got in and out with pictures of dead people, even babies, being cooked for food. Meanwhile the NK army stayed fed and ready to invade South Korea.

And what were the harmless leaders of North Korea doing at that time? Buying more weapons for their army and seeking to build a nuclear bomb arsenal, that's what they were doing. Yet again it took Americans giving away billions of dollars worth of help for free to save those people from a death being inflicted on them by their own leaders.

Speaking as an American, I am getting really tired of hearing about how were are still supposed to bend over backwards to assure people we mean them no harm. If they haven't figured that much out by now, those 3rd world fools are blind, deaf, and totally ignorant. And undeserving of help.

It isn't us that needs to keep bending over backwards, it is the people who take our help with one hand and give us the finger with other that need to improve their ways. We now have a true national grudge against anything French. The kind of grudge that I think hasn't happened in America since Japan hit Pearl Harbor and it is entirely France's own doing. We're not so far from feeling the same about the Germans, their overpriced car sales have dropped pretty badly from all this and they were used to selling something like 70% of their cars here.

The 3rd World controls the UN, which is why the UN is now utterly useless when it comes to actually creating some peace somewhere or of helping anyone well enough that the help does not turn into annually supplied welfare. What will they do when the day comes that America gets so fed up with them they get their lease pulled in NY and get told to go build a new headquarters in some other country and good riddance to them? Their free ride on America's dollars is in real danger of ending at last because of their own lies, corruption, bad attitude, and just plain ingratitude.

We're on the edge of having a good long national grudge against the 3rd world. And I think that if their leaders don't start doing some ass kissing themselves for a change they're going to wake up one day, turn on the news, and hear an American President announce that the gravy train is over.

All those years of charity and financial support poured out to them from a bottomless American bucket, and those jerks can't bring themselve to say thank you to us. Meanwhile Iraqis of all ages are taking the time to say thank you to the armed Americans they see on their streets every day.

The good news is that most of the nations of Europe, especially the ex-soviet ones are still capable of realising that evil must be opposed no matter where it is happening and did not fail to support the USA when Bush stepped forward to stop that evil. Maybe they could not send an army like we could, but they did stand up and say go for it and sent what help they could.

The sad news is that Russia, Germany, and France knew all about the evil in Iraq and deliberatly chose to accept and protect that evil in the name of money. It is sad because none of them can say they didn't know, the proof that they did is overwhelming. And far worse, none of them can say they didn't know the difference between good and evil. The proof of that is also overwhelming.

And the thing to remember about the 3rd world and why they keep calling us evil tyrant wannabes is because they themselve are mostly ruled by tyrants and right now there's a whole lot of tyrants who are shaking in their shoes and wondering how long Bush will be in office and how far down on our list of things to do their own dictatorships are.
