You people have heard of my posts? I'm blushing!
What have you grumpy old men been telling the kids about me? Should I be worried? *looks about rapidly* I'm not on camera or anything, am I? Gleep!
And I didn't think that my posts were ever anything special. What, I have a flavor and nobody ever said anything? Doggone it! Now you've gone and made me all paranoid. Harumph.
Now then, first Ruger ... I know that MWDA is doing a lot of this, and I applaud that. Wish I could take *credit* for it, but I know better. Glad to se ethat I could make some predictions and the like, tho. My Kung Fu is strong. A post above has gone and gotten my brain churning, tho. Remind me to poke you about Star League foo shortly.
For the magazine, I should note that it is NOT a Fat Dwarf. Battletech, at this stage, is nowhere *near* prepared for, say, a 180 page monthly publication. That, as usual, is crazytalk.
No, what I forsee is something like this:
1) Legal foo.
2) Editors, writers, etc.
3) Table of Contents
4-5) New Release Pages
6-7) New Release TRO #1
8-9) New Release TRO #2
XXX Articles. Things each issue might include:
** Planetary writeup (2-4 pages) for the non-capital worlds.
** Unit Writeup (2-4 pages) of a small mercenary band, or a House division. Who leads it, what they do, anythig special, etc.
** Universe Update (1-2 pages) For updates and rumors ... planet X changed hands, facility Y was raided, and Duke Z has been seen talking to people, more as it develops.
** Fluff Stuff (2-4 pages) current sports intrests, cuisine, culturefoo, condensed history of a house or region. Maybe trace a family tree (The Sandovals through the centuries!)
** Painting/Terrain (2-8 pages) How to make terrain and how to paint minis, as well as assembly instructions for plastic kits or conversion work.
Battle Report (XXX pages) How many pages would this take, anyway? Regardless, battle writeups for games, showcasing how a force should be formed, how to play through the assorted scenarios, tactics, and so on. Keeping the rules clear and well-presented, showing off force construction thoughts and flavor, and, of course, enjoying the new missions-themed action, rather than simple 'Shoot the otehr side' scenarios.
You could probably put a couple more articles in there, if you had the support.
Finally, a small catalogue for teh last 2-4 pages, showing off the units that were used in that issue or other recent, but not brand new, releases.
That should just about wrap it up, I'd think. Sell it for about $3.00, I'm thinking, with color shots if possible. I couldn't justify a $5 White Dwarf-like price for a 'zine of this average a size. But who knows? There might be more there than I know of.
More after I do some more reading. Not fully awake yet. :/
