Traditionally TRO's show new designs that incorporate the latest technology. Let's say, though, that we turn this on its head like the original Batteltech storyline and technology is degenerating. Would you guys buy TRO's where each generation of equipment is crappier than the previous, and you could follow the loss of technology through the major Houses?

I think it would be kind of neat. In one TRO you got mechs carrying DHS and RAC's, and a few later the Houses are sporting jeeps with SRM2's in frontline units.

I dont think it would help a game system that is already suffering. I would prefer to see TRO's that are more like hte original 3025 TRO. The fluff was great and really helped add color to the mechs. Especially if you use the mechs with the glitches in them. ( Second mech I ever piloted was a Cicada with the faulty HS) It was horrible but was more enjoyable that way.

I think it would be neat from a storyline standpoint, but I doubt the designs would get much use. I mean, who today picks a Level 1 design over a Level 2 design (in general). I'm sure it would sell somewhat (mostly among completists) but wouldn't get much use.

The problem I have with the story line comes down to the poor execution of a good idea. WoB doing something underhanded=good.
WoB using hidden armies and nukes=bad.

That and how it's being used to set up MWDA. It simply can't evolve properly since it has to follow that storyline. More importantly maybe is the writing. The same people who have to move the game to the future because they wrote themselves into a corner are still the ones writing.

I don't mind constant war, if it's done correctly. But even so, ever since the introduction of the 4th Suc. War, it has been one major even after another. Look at what we've had in the last 20 years of game time: The Clan Invasion, Tukayyid, the splitting of ComStar, the formation of the Chaos March, The Refusal War, the FedCom Civil War, Op. Bulldog, the destruction of Smoke Jags...well you get the idea. It's like a WW2 every couple of years. Now we get the Jihad.

I'm not advocating a stagnant storyline, but a few years of low intensity for everyone to catch up.

Yeah. I think at heart Btechers are a bunch of power gamers. Everyone always wants to use the latest equipment. That's cool and all, but it cripples the original storyline and game style. I liked Btech better when the universe was decaying and everything was held together with bailing wire and duct tape. Then you didn't need an excuse of why there are no guided missiles and the cannons suck.

The problem I have with the storyline is it sounds like a cheap Terminator knockoff. All we need now is for WoB to send some goobers back in time to kill Devlin Stone as a kid.

Now I know the Apocalypse is coming!! Sell your stock and buy weapons, gold, rations and women!

Wow, Gangrene, I never thought you were a closet 3025 fan

Well, the way I see it, probably most of the people that play Battletech are power gamers and want lots of stuff.

Those that prefer to keep Battletech KISS, are the roleplayers types, they are as interested in the setting as in the challenge of wargaming with the constraints of the setting. It's always more satisfactory to survive a battle with a beatup ancient Locust than using legions of doom of Clan Omnimech assaults.

Regarding the storyline and MWDA, I simply ignore it. I don't give a damn anymore about what they write. I gave up quite a lot sooner.

I have my games, my minis and more stuff to play with that I'll ever use in a lifetime, I'll use my source material to play campaigns in the 3025 era without bothering about interstellar politics.

In the end, nobody cares who's the Prince of New Avalon down in the mapboard.

Its been growing on me for a while now. I like hi-tech in real life, but not the way its implemented in Btech. As the storyline advances I find that I would rather rummage through the used sections of game stores hoping to find the Marik House book or the NAIS Atlases than buy the new material. Plus, the 3025 setting was the funnest and the game was most balanced then.

Here here, I was someone who hadn't even heard of Mechwarrior until Operation Bulldog was in full swing and once I got into it all I did was use Clan tech, and slowly but surely I've turned into a purist, using as little Clan tech as possible.

You have no concept of the power of the dark side. MUWAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!

Whoops! I mean, welcome to the Warden clans gentlemen.

3025, when you couldn't just dismiss a Rifleman. 2 AC/5's and a Large Laser every turn would mess you up. Unless Horhiro is piloting, and then it's 2 AC's and 2 Large Lasers, until he overheats and blows up.

What a fun thing in computer Mech4....you can even enjoy the sight of an enemy mech walking right up to your shutdown Nova Cat as he stares at the fallen remains of his comrades, then deftly executing you with an AC or Gauss

"Bravo Cadet reports mechs down at Nav Gamma...I'm in bad shape...he's got a lock on me, he's got a lock on me! *Static crackle*"

Maybe one TRO that introduced new designs (of varying technical sophistication), and had a timeline of when designs went out the window, before the inevitable recovery, would be okay.

I don't think more than one book should be dedicated to this concept though, I don't think many people would buy them all.
