Well, finally somebody confirms my theory that school is just a prison to keep the kids away from sight
Read this carefully, and hope you remember some of this stuff when you have kids

it was long, but very very informative.
looking back, i could see that i was a rouge, who moved between tables b thru d. thus ultimatly my call sign, vagabond.
but i was fortunite to have attended a vocational based high school. where popularity was not graded by sports but by accedemics and charisma.
i guess the majority where nerds, with the minority being others.
thanks for sharing this man.

Dang! He hit a bullseye with that essay. I agree completely. I never liked being a nerd, and Junior High was the closest to hell that I have ever been.

My, but that brought up some interesting points...perhaps not all hope it lost.
As for nerds being socially under developed, I've always stood by my statement that I have an awful talent of saying just the wrong thing. Perhaps I know why: I just don't talk to enough people.

Amen Joe. I didn't try to fit in. I did the things I liked and got my *ss kicked for most of them. Reading, Computers, Chemistry, RPGs and Chess are some of the things I like to do. In School, those very things put a bullseye on me from the start. Until they needed help in those things, then they would demean themselves to talk to me. After it was done, they were history... ( Another thing I like. )

Well I must say that this is mostly visible in my school (private). Except for the fact that there are three tables (A B C). A is the jocks, and C is geeks, while B is usually a mix of the two. The problems are for table A however. Mostly because the other people outnumber them nearly 4:1, so if they mess with anyone usually they have three more surrounding them. The last time something like this happened, a wannabe jock picked a fight with one of my friends, so there was this loser standing up against four people. All of us were at least 6 feet, all above 200 pounds, and we outnu, bered him. It was quite entertaining to see him calling for his "buds" to help him, them see them laughing and pointing at him. Just shows how moronic those A table peeps are. They reduce their numbers and add more enemies, those that could single-handidly wipe the floor with them. BTW, all the really good looking girls tend to be B table... where I am

I don't know if I was truly a nerd. In Jr. High, I was pretty much, but I got more socially adept in High school.
I'm curious to know, however, how many people here would have considered themselves to be a nerd in school?

I for one. Reading the school books in advance out of boredom isn`t normal.

I'm not a nerd, I'm a freak and damn proud of it !
Seriously, I always have been a misfit, eternal round bolt in square hole. That's why I didn't make it in engineering

i'd consider myself a nerd, thou i didn't strive as hard as most in learning the curiculume. but i'm intellegent and was enough to be an A/B student.
was part of the chess club, was top of my school in geometry, part of the computer club, started the rpg club, and was a teachers aid for 3 years.
i think i classify.

Nightmare, You think you got looks, I read the English Dictionary.
Tanker, I got kicked out of the Computer lab for hacking the OS Commands on each Computer and changing them. I missed 7 total points in Chemistry(For the entire Year). I missed 11 in Geometry. I whent to school from 8am until 5pm for a year, so I could get more computer classes in.
I might be a nerd/geek.
Vampire, I also am a round bolt in a square hole, but I did well in Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering.
