Well, actually, I just wanted to compliment the guy, and I figured the title would get your attention considering the vast quantity of people who dislike him. I'm very neutral when it comes to his BattleTech novels. I use to love him, but over the years have grown neutral upon reading better BT novels from other authors.

However, I did want to say that I have, to this point, truly loved his two novels The Dark Glory War and Fortress Draconis. Loved the first when I read it two years ago and am currently thoroughly enjoying the second. It gives him his own universe to explore and develop instead of using an existing one. And in my opinion he does an excellent job. His character development has been great and the plot draws you in where you want to keep reading chapter after chapter.

Has anyone else read these books? If so, what did you think? And keep in mind that I haven't actually finished Fortress Draconis, so no spoilers.

I liked Talion: Revenant better...

I haven't picked up Fortress Draconis, nor the third book in the series as yet (I think the third is already out anyways)...don't really plan to either...I find that his work has gotten pretty dry and stale, and he always did have quite a problem with writing in shades of grey rather than pure black and white...not that that really applies to most fantasy or Star Wars novels...

I do have that one as well. And yes, it was an awesome book, from what I can recall. I read it some time ago, but I do remember finishing it rather quickly. My short term memory is great, but long-term sucks! Which is great for re-reading books.

One thing that I loved of Talion was the universe. I want to discover more of it myself because that would be a great world setting for D&D in my opinion.

Total agreement here...and speaking of that, I'm wondering what the new D&D setting will be like now that someone won that contest for developing a new setting to play in...

I'd also love to see a setting based on RA Salvatore's DemonWars series of books...they've already have a head start on it what with Gem Magic being introed in the Magic of Faerun sourcebook...just imagine though...Bloody Cap Dwarves, small winged elves, goblins, humans, giants, a religion similar to what we have in most western nations here (and another with an Arabian flavor), and magic that can be used by anyone that can harness the power of the gems...

Granted, you wouldn't have too many (if any at all) Rangers in most parties (only 1 or 2 are trained by the elves each generation), but maybe you could have a less powerful equivalent (especially since they seem to have abilities not really found in the typical D&D ranger)...

Kind of getting off the original path of the thread here, but I just picked up one of his new MW:DA novels today at Meijer, called "Ghost War" My first novel of *any* BT literature btw....throughly enjoyed it, although the plot was kind of muddled at times. I kind of speed-read through it though, so I'm sure taking my time things would've gelled together a lot better.

I'm reading it right now. I'm at around page fifty, (Been too busy to spend a lot of time reading it.) It's not bad, but, he writes it in the first person, and keeps refering to it as "a piece of literature", which I think is a little wishy-washy. Oh well, it does pass the time, though.

It explains a lot more as it goes on, I think many things will get tied together for you really soon in the book if they haven't already. One of those things where you'll just go "ohhhhh..."
