I play with a group of old vets who have the rules memorized and are teaching me, but I'd like to get a hold of a copy of the rules. However I am broke beyond beleif and there is little hope of recover in the near future, does anyone have any suggestions? Or possible a loaner?

I would check out ebay and get a used copy of any of the following "rules of warfare", "BattleTech Compendium", "Battletech Compendium/Rules of Warfare", "BattleTech Master Rules (unrevised). Then you would have the core rules pretty much, and let the gang fill you in on the most up to date rulings/tech. It would be a very cheap way to get most of the rules without getting a "Battletech Master Rules:Updated".
Or you could wait just a little while as a new boxed set is coming out!

I suspect the boxed set would only include the level 1 rules.

Seeing as how it is "introductory" you are most likely correct sir. Although that may refer to the "quick start" rules which it contains.

I must restate something, I have, ABSOLUTLY NO cash..... -_-; the finanical situation here is HORRIBLE there is NO work for highschoolers...and I'd borrow the rules from the guys but every last one of them has sold off there copies. I fully intend to buy the next revision of the rules but right now I just can't afford to buy ANYTHING but what I need to live... it sucks

Of course you'll owe me. You'll at least have to change your affiliation to the Draconis Combine!

Mercs are okay. Heck we've learned from Takashi's mistake. If he'd just paid the Dragoons instead of trying to keep them by force.....just think of the greatness(beyond what we have) could've achieved!
With all the rules you've got memorized, you'll probably be a Company Commander at TotalCon.

wait a set, hit location? you mean like RA, RT, CT, LT, LA, RL, LL, and Cocpit!? Any Mechwarrior worth his cooling jacket should know those.

Hey, I haven't memorized them. I spend more time on my battle plan than on memorizing tables. I can usually tell what part of the body is hit, just not which side...
