I just checked www.figures.com concerning the new G1 Transformers re-issues (Smokescreen and Megatron) when I found some bad news.
By law, all toy guns being imported to the States must have an orange barrel so that people can identify them as being fake from a distance. Megatron is being classified as a toy gun due to his gun mode, and so will not be allowed into the States as his barrel is the original gunmetal color.

I thought they were going to paint the front end of the barrel an off orange to get around that?
That is what I heard from a Marvel Rep...who was talking about the new up coming Transformers comic...he said that to have several of the older Transformers, Megatron and Galvatron the need for the Front end of the barrel to be painted in an orange should be settled by some time next year.

It's possible. Figures.com relies on fan news submissions, and so are sometimes behind in the news.
BTW, why would Galvatron need his barrel painted? He's a fururistic artillery piece.

A few years ago (especially around Halloween) there was a rash of shootings involving people who thought that kids were carrying real guns when all that they had were toys. The orange barrel is one of the laws that was passed to keep it from happening. Bear in mind that for a while, they weren't even selling toy guns in areas before they made the rule with the orange barrel.
BTW, Megatron's gun mode is a Walther PP-7.

I know what Galvatron looks like...but that was one of the ones along with Shockwave that was suppose to get the orange tip around the opening of their barrels...
Seems to me that they aren't taking the chance that someone won't come along later and demand the artillery transformers have their barrels painted as too...
Could be worse...the whole robot in orange...

Already did that:
1. Lightspeed (Technobot)
2. Afterburner (Technobot)
3. the scoop from the (Autobot) Micromaster Construction Patrol
4. Hot Rod
All of them have orange as the primary color of the scheme. Then, of course, is the rare 'Bumblejumper' figure- a rare variant Bumblebee molded in red. www.seibertron.com has the picture of one somewhere in their image gallery from botcon.

You mean a PPK? "PP7" is the non-liscenesed one Rare put on the n64 goldeneye, along with the "KF7 Soviet", "Klobb", "AR-13", "RC-P90" and prolly a few others I've missed also. _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.

That toy gun stuff came around because of the waterguns, I once had this water Uzi that at night or from a little ways away would easily be mistaken for the real thing. The water tank was even the magazine.
And more recently, those airsoft guns have been involved in a few incidients, since they are also made to look just like the real thing. Somewhere around here this year a kid got shot because he was running around with an airsoft SMG or something playing hide and seek with friends. If I recall it was a cop that shot him.
But what really gets me was last christmas. I wanted to get my nephew a nice noisy toy gun because I figured that would really bug my sister. On TV I could see news clips of kids walking out of toy stores with really neat toy guns, made me want one too. But after a couple of days of riding around to every big store and mall in SE Texas, I found no toy guns of any kind, nada.
But man were there plenty of nice looking dolls for boys. Mostly GIJoe, mostly really crappy in the view of us historically accurate types. The Wake Island US Marine guy I saw had the WWI helmet (accurate) and a WWI French Chauchet LMG (wrong war, wrong country, wrong side of the planet).
Now sure, it was a soldier doll, but it was still a DOLL. Girls buy dolls, boys get toy guns. But now they're buying dolls that tower over Barbie and mostly all seem to be equipped with that same French LMG, widely known as the absolute worst piece of crap to be issued to soldiers in history, regardless of which country and which war they were from. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

PPK. It's been a while since I last looked through my firearms manual.
And no, it's a firearms manual for an RPG so don't get scared.

Actually, that's just it's cover story.
It's called 'The Armory' and it was written by Kevin Dockery for Firebird LTD. The guy basically wrote an actual weapons manual- complete with pictures, weapons stats, and a breif background. To legitimize it, he then put the stats in the back of the book for how they'd transfer into their games. However, the book was written in 1983, so it's rather out of date.
If you want a purely RPG weapons manual, get "The Compendium of Contemporary Weapons" which was put out by Palladium (makers of 'Rifts'). This, too, is out of date as it was done in 1986.
