In a campaign. Lets say you have a company or something that needs supplies so you dispatch a lance to get them, one of these could be the supply hauler, adn the lance could be guards, the goal of that part of the campaign is to guard the transport back to the front line and to your unit. Just adds a touch of realism to the game. I like it!

Oh...so the game would focus on protecting the transport....I see now....that is kinda cool.
wouldn't the first design be better?...It has alot more armor

this variant would be used in a more secure area. say on new avilon, where it would be used to haul food and supplies. or in the deep rear area of a combat zone, where its more likly to have a metior hit you then be attacked.

Or transporting munitions on the front lines if you're suicidal. But every army needs vehicles like the Dalton, they form the backbone of everything, I mean, something has to move the ammo and parts around.
I asked for this version because the "A" Dalton is good when you expect to be messed with, but if the enemy is no where around, you can use the "B" and get it there a lot quicker.

| Now there's the part I don't get....If there is no enemy...there's no battle....no battle means no game..right?
Do you guys really so much into details in your games?
Sorry for all the questions...I'm still trying to understand the concept of it all

yes. you see, we will design and post vehicles and units that will not see play in 99% of games. but they exist in the background, the movers and shackers that allow the battlemechs and tanks to fight. thus allowing you to enjoy your game.
this is what truely seperates the player from the gamer. a gamer will only play the game, a player play's in the world. characters like ruger, raven, gangrene, and icer are developed over long campaigns where the movement of munitions makes the difference between victory and defeat.
so, the reason for its existence is because we as players exist in the universe, and we know that while it may never see action, it probly 10x as important then any battlemech.

Exactly! I couldn't have put it better myself. I mean, there's more to the BattleTech universe than endless fighting, which is why we put so much into characters, equipment, locations. And fan fiction. The Byzantine politics and reality (odd choice of words I know) is what makes BattleTech, BattleTech. You can just roll random 'Mechs and pilots and blow things up, or you can put effort into everything and even detail what's going on "behind the scenes". You can do as much or as little as you like.
