A general noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would pick up any piece of paper he found, frown and say: “That's not it” and put it down again. This went on for some time, until the general arranged to have the soldier psychologically tested. The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out his discharge from the army. The soldier picked it up, smiled and said: “That's it.”

Yeah...the world's funniest joke. They used it as a weapon in WWII. Pretty funny stuff.
In fact, thats what spawned the research.

Actually the funniest joke from money python was written by a joke writer. He red it and died. then his wife. then the police. finally the military got ahold of it and had to disect the joke word by word. 1 worker saw a second word for the joke and was hospitalized.
And if youve never seen them the Faulty towers episodes are actually much funnier than Red Dwarf (a personal favorite of mine as well). If you get the chance you NEED to watch thoes. Its john cleese at his absolute best.
