I've decided to pool the brainpower of everyone in the board to come up with something unique. Thee challenge? A very big APC/ISV.

Requirements/Rules/Froinlavin:
1) No hovercraft or VTOLs. Naval Vehicles if you like, 'cause I've never seen a FASA/FanPro naval transport.
2) Must carry at least 8 tons of infantry space.
3) Design must be Level 1 or Level 2. No Level 3 stuff please.

The contestants will recieve praise for their effort. Sorry if that's not much of a motivator.

Nice stuff, Vagabond. Not that I didn't expect that. A little light on weaponry though. Any other submissions?

I have some that meet most of your requirements, but to me putting 8 tons of infantry in one vehicle is akin to putting all your eggs in one basket...

I can build a vehicle that carries two tons of infantry have a better chance of getting the infantry into battle then the single 8 ton bay unit does.

well, as an APC/ISV you don't need firepower. thats the job of the tankers, no the transporters. thats why the weapons are designed around infantry/anti-infantry support.

the speed still allows it to maintain contact with motorized infantry, and tanks rolling out at crusing speed. the guns are choosen for maximum effect against infantry, starting with the much under estimated rotary ac/2..... which at full fire can lay down cover fire on enemy infantry, pinning them into covered positions with there heads down. of risk loosing up to 50% of there number.

The tride and true MG is used for those ambisious anti-mech infantry who wanna add a vehicle to there kill sheet. able to sweep away up to 50% of an infantry platoon each. then to kick loose those dug in bastards, you have a humans worst enemy..... a flamer. i'll personelly gurrenty you that this weapon will cause any infantry unit with families to brake and run. the sound of your friends screamin as the lining of there lungs gets devourd as they inhail the flames will make you piss your pants.

i choose thick armor to allow the vehicle to take several anti-tank missile hits with out worry. both are cheep, easy to mass produce, and greet for what there designed to do. one is wheeled for increased speed, one is tracked for increased mobility. both will kill infantry.

BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED

Type/Model: Hetzer Wheeled Transport
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025
Config: Wheeled Vehicle
Rules: Level 1, Standard design

Mass: 40 tons
Power Plant: 140 SitiCide I.C.E.
Cruise Speed: 43,2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64,8 km/h
Armor Type: StarSlab 6 Standard
Armament:
2 Holly LRM 5s
6 20mm Gatling Gun Machine Guns
Manufacturer: Quickcell Company
Location: (Unknown)
Communications System: Johnston Q-Band
Targeting & Tracking System: Scantrex Dual Tac

==Overview:==
A Hetzer Wheeled Assault Gun that has had it`s main armament destroyed is
often refitted with whatever the owner can find. The Transport variety, however,
is a factory refit of damaged Hetzers. The Quikscell Company hastily cuts new
ports in the armor for machine guns and bolts on twin LRM-5s on the AC mount.

==Capabilities:==
The Hetzer is a very simple vehicle to manufacture. Using a basic truck
chassis and engine, Quikscell welds armor plate into a box-shape, cuts out
holes for hatches and weapons, and places enough equipment inside to allow the
vehicle to be marginally effective on the battlefield (or at least not totally
ineffective). The simplicity of the procedures also allows Quikscell to employ
unskilled labor, which definitely improves the firm's profit margins.
The manufacturing technique may be cheap and fast, but it can result in a
very slipshod product. Many crewmembers have complained that their newly issued
vehicles do not have all of the equipment properly installed. In many cases
gun sights and ammo racks have been found thrown into the crew compartment. If
the crew is lucky enough to find a bag of bolts also included, they can install
these components themselves. More often than not, however, the crews are unable
to install this critical equipment, and so quite a few brand new vehicles are
immediately listed as inoperable on the unit status reports. Because of this
problem, many crews refuse to exchange their older vehicles for new ones, for
at least they know that their current machine works.
One problem with the Hetzer that is less severe in this variant is the electrical system. With less weaponry to power, the battery isn`t taxed as badly. The machine is still forced to keep it`s engine going if it`s cold outside, as the heating systems are dependent on that.

==Battle History:==
Usually very short.

==Variants:==
A few variants on the Hetzer have become popular over the years , but the
cannon remains the perfered weapon . The rare modifications have been on an
indivual basis , with long- , short-ranged missile racks and even lasers an
flamers sometimes replacing the Crusher cannon.
Some forces use Hetzers with advanced scouting and detection equipment. S
equipment is so prohibitively expensive that it is usually reserved for
better-armed and mobile units .

==Notable Vehicles & Crew:==
None with the Transport variant.

Ok, well if you're gonna use an APC, you want to make sure it's fast so it can get in and out as quickly as possible. And so it has less of a chance of getting hit too. And so, here are my submissions. I might have miscalculated some of this is anyone wants to go back over it btw, as well as that I really don't know the battle values either.

Tracked XL-APC Racer

Technology Base: - Inner Sphere - Level 2
Equipment Mass
Tonnage: 30
Internal Structure: 3
Engine: 210 XL 6.75
Cruise MP: 7
Flank MP: 11
Jumping MP: 0
Heat Sinks: 10 0
Control Components: 1.5
Armor Factor: 108 FF 6

Internal Armor
Structure Value
Front 3 25
Turret 3 20
R/L Side 3 22
Aft 3 19

Weapons and Ammo Location Tonnage
ER Medium Laser T 1
ER Medium Laser T 1
Machine Gun T .5
Machine Gun T .5
Machine Gun Ammo (100) Body .5
Cargo Body 8.25
CASE Body .5

Cost is around 3.1 million C-Bills.

Variants:
Larger Variant is 40 tons, drops speed to 6/9, but adds a LRM10 in front with 1 ton ammo and 1/2 ton armor. Costs around 4.6 million C-Bills.
Non-XL Variant drops the speed to 5/8 and the MG's, but costs only about 1 million C-Bills.

A good reason not to get into a machine with only half the engine shielding as a normal tank with a sun in a bottle.

XL engines carry the same amount of shielding as standards or they'd run hot. They just carry bulkier shielding that takes up more room and less weight.
