Is the Doc alive or dead at this point? I lost track of him and TB after the Fourth Succession War and haven't seen him mentioned in any of the fiction I've read. Any information on where he and Team Banzai are?

Banzai, like many other characters, dropped off the map to make room for others. The last I heard, Team Banzai was still stationed on Northwind, and they're probably the ones who helped get the Crab factory there operational again. If they are still there, I have no idea how they and the Northwind Highlanders handle each other.
As it is, this is a reference to the cult classic 'Buckaroo Banzai'. The title is much longer, but I can't remember it all. Most likely, the novelty wore off, even though one of the character names from Monte Diablo (John Smallberries) was supposed to be from that movie. IIRC, Banzai was a rock musician, brain surgeon, and a few other things all at the same time.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. IIRC

Yeah, I've heard of that movie, but didn't realize it may have been the inspiration for the Doc. They prolly did help the Crab factory get on its feet after the 4th War, then they were pushed off in the War of 3057 I bet. They're prolly somewhere in the Suns, reaping serious cash for cadre duty and consulting. They may have disbanded and become part of the NAIS as well. I guess with no "official" history it's all speculation.

May? It was. If you'll go back and look through a lot of the older manuals, you'll find a lot of references to older pop culture. For instance, in the 3025 Packrat entry, they referred to a particular vehicle named 'Mickey Rat.' 'Char Ansable' (Mobile Suit Gundam; Char's Counterattack) appears on the roster somewhere in the Wolf's Dragoons sourcebook. The Galleon is an anglicized version of what it was called in Crusher Joe- in the series, it was known as the Gareon; l and r are interchangeable when translating English to Japanese. Somewhere, there's also a reference to anime legend Leiji Matsumoto (sp?)... IIRC, two planets were named after his characters. Rhonda Snord was referred to as a massive Elvis fan in the Snord's Irregulars sourcebook (the first one). Later sourcebooks for the Irregulars included a Barbie collector and a sports memorabilia collector who has the Braves' pennant from 1994. The 'Immortal Warrior' movie series they keep referencing is most likely their nod to the Bond films.
There's actually a much wider list. Anyone else have any input?

Actually, quite a few Gundam characters (especially from Zeta Gundam) could be found in the pilot listings for Zeta Battalion...

And the 'Mech that became known as the Locust in BTech was originally a robot named the Ostsol in Crusher Joe the Movie...

Not to forget that a Snow Raven WarShip is named the Lum, which is also the name of a much loved character in another anime series...

Several merc units and their commanders are plays on various things...like the Dragonslayers led by a Kitiara (Kitiara uth Majere was a Dragon Highlord in the Dragonlance D&D setting), among others...
There is also a Wendy Testeburger (sp?) of South Park fame in the MW's Guide to Solaris VII...
When Vic receives the news of his mother's death, the scene is COMPLETELY reminescent of when Kirk learned of his son's death in Star Trek III...
There are many other references...
