I managed to get ahold of a MW:DA starter pack yesterday. At first the biggest thing that surprised me was the size of the box, nearly twice as thick as a MK starter. Inside it had enough info to make sure anyone playing had a basic idea of what the universe was like, even if they had not heard of BTech.
Miniatures
These were the best part of the entire thing. The level of detail is just amazing, I think that if I were to remov the cockpit of the mech (a Spider), I would be able to see the mechwarrior (or I could just be crazy). Not only is that good, but the mech also has three points of articulation (hip & shoulders). Even the battle armor units are unbelievably detailed. Another great thing is the combat dial on the vehicles, which has grips on the side of the base (making it easy to turn).
Rules
Very simple to read and understand (and play, from the looks of it). I have yet to play, but it should not be hard to start. I have mixed feelings about the simplicity. On one hand the simples rules are good because there is not much to remember (unlike BTech which has a lot of info to remember). On the other hand I dislike the lack of realism that the complex BTech rules give you. The special abilities are interesting, and I like the idea of units that can repair damaged mechs, vehicles & infantry.
Other items
The alliance dossiers are an idea that I like. Especially because of the info that they have on units in the new universe. Better yet are the travel size timelines and map/info about the Republic of the Sphere.
It is still too early for me to decide whether I like the new game or not, but I find it to be interesting. Hopefully it will be fun to play. It would make a good way to welcome other players into the BTech universe, without overloading them with the BMR's complexity.

So is it worth the bucks you paid for it?

I have to agree, They are very easy to read rules, The mechs (and the tanks) are very detailed and some are posable. It would take a newbie about 3 mintues to learn the game.
But everyone should know how I feel about clicky-tech. and why. So I will not beat a dead horse. But all in all. it is not a bad game system. But clicky-tech never was

In my opinion, yes, it is worth the money. The rules are also good if you know someone that has played Mage Knights. They are similar enough that the person should have no problem learning them quickly.
The "click-tech" is nice, but too over-simplified. It is nice to have a damage system that does not require you to jump between locations, roll endless crits, and have to remember what rules each crit has. The things I do not like about it are the fact that everything is pre-determined (easily fixed with house rules) and it lacks the realism (as I stated in my 1st post).

So, one thing I'm still unclear on...
When you buy a pack of minis, do you know what minis are in the box, or is it luck-o-the-draw?
If it's just luck, I'll sit this one out. I already did the "spend all my money on Magic Cards" thing

You know that there is one Mech, one tank, and two infantry in each boaster. Each starter contains one Mech, two tanks and five infantry I believe. The types of Mechs, tanks, and infantry is unknow you you.

YOu buy sight unseen all the box tells you is you will get one mech, some infantry and a vehicle....so you never know what you are getting. The person I buy my gaming stuff from had a guy order some, he opens it and he didn't get one real mech at all...he got two each of the loggermechs and two of the yellow industrial mechs, the rest was infantry and vehicles...he was not happy.
