Okay can any of you give some ideas on how you come up with fluff for a mech or what?
What gives you the fluff for the unit? And how does the ideas you have for both role of the vehicle and what it carries as far as weapons go influence the fluff?
Could you list how you come up with fluff or is it just something that you sit down and write out as needed?

1. What was this unit intended to do? Why?
2. Which faction has access to it?
3. How are they currently using it?
4. What sets it apart from other similar units?
Example: my Thug IIC.
When initially concieved shortly after the Clans colonized the homeworlds, the Thug IIC was intended to serve as a commander's mech. However, the modification of other units to IIC, such as the Orion, Highlander, and Pheonix Hawk, and then the eventual rise of the omnimech forced this mech into the background. In a twist of fate, due to the heavy losses occurred since the start of the invasion a handful of Clans- most notably Clan Wolf- have taken their surviving Thug IICs out of mothball and it is believed that Wolf Khan Vlad Ward may have even reopened a production line due to the sudden appearance of Thug IICs en masse in certain units.
Item 1: It was intended as a commander's vehicle.
Item 2: The Clans use it, but primarily Wolf.
Item 3: Although initially used as a commander's unit, it is now being used to plug gaps in material.
Item 4: It exists in numbers that other IIC units (especially the Highlander IIC, Kodiak, and Grizzly) do not.

I really never design mechs as I feel that there are too many official ones out there already.
The only time I do is for a Solaris7 based battle where standard chassis can be kit-bashed and there in lies the fluff!

ALL fluff text should feature my battlemech unit (Lewis' Executioners) in a lead and conquering role.
Aside from that, I like to use the format that was used in the original 3025 TRO.

errrr......uh....good point.
Lewis' Executioners is my not-previously-featured merc unit. I will post a writeup on the unit sometime very soon.

Actually, all fluff should include the Crimson Jannissaries ...of course, who knows if they will still be around at the end of my fanfic?
Which reminds me...for those reading it, I finished the rough draft of the 4th part last night, and sent it off to my proofreaders...I might start the 5th (and I think final) section today...
Right now, it's only looking to be a third to half as long as a present BTech novel (about 30,000 to 40,000 words)...I could have expanded on it more...but don't really want to right now...I already need to go back to the previous sections and make a few corrections...
