I liked the one time McCall convinced some guards that he had a monofilament garrotte just by holding his fists apart at a certain distance, and they let him and Grayson's kid walk out of the place.

Its this lame signle filament knife that supposedly you can't see but it can cut through just about anything. In one of the books McCall pretended like he had one by making a fist and holding it to the bad guys throat. I didn't really like that book.

No, a garrote is a wire used to strangle people...a monofilament one is a wire that is about a molecule thick (or at least VERY thin...no more than a human hair in thickness at most), but extremely strong, so that can cut through ANYTHING because it is so thin...
