wow thats something to think about i mean the mech/map ratio thing a hex is a 100 feet and if you lay down the mech on the map an average mech should be 2-3 hundred feet tall
hmmmmmmmmm

Except everyone knows that a 'Mech doesn't actually take up a whole hex. In any case, we're getting into FASA physics, so my head is starting to hurt already just thinking about it! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

12 meters does not equal 200-300 feet. 90% if not even more of your mechs are going to be between 30 and 40 feet tall. There are a few like the Summoner that are taller than average and I am sure there are those that are shorter, though I cannot think of an specifically off hand.

I disliked having a tank with guns 2 inches long that could only shoot 14 inches. That was the farthest range I saw. It seems to be a VERY abstracted version of battletech. At least the units deteriorate in ability similar to BT. |

CBT is not much better. Just remember that a hex has a diameter of 100 feet !

P.S.: Has anyboy calculated how high a BattleMech should be if he is reduced with the same value as the map ?

Gents,
Hell a range of 6" is fine, if it flows with the rest of the game. I play a lot of games that 6" is the range, but the infantry can move only 3" without any other mods. But the scale of the mechs and the size of the board makes 14" sqaut nada. ALso this is compounded by units that can move 12". If I size it up correctly and have a good eye, I can get one shot off before they close and engauge.
As for CBT, I think that was a classic FASA FUBAR. They designed the game in hexes for ease of play and other items. Thjen one day someone askes the question...."How big is a hex?" And the answer of 30 meters is here to haunt us for the rest of time. Also the issue of how high a level is leads to many issues of LOS and size. Do most of you realizeee a L4 Btech building is only between 5-7 stories tall. That is nothing in a big city. Do not get me even going on the tiny manufacturing plants they lay out in scenarios. Hell a C&C facility can be 150 meters by 20 meters easily.
OK I am done ranting. But my issues was range as it relates to movement and scale.
AWAD- Got to love a game in which the range is, I see them I shoot them

As i have some experience with MageKnight, i can tell you that units usualy have a movement rate & weapons range of 6 to 8 inches in MK. 12 and more are exeptional good ranges. I asume the same is true for MW: DA.
If VTOL or Hover attacks you, it is clear that you only have a single shot until the unit has reached you. This is true even in CBT !
