Overview:
In May 3067 the graduating classes of the Luthien Academy Of Military Design got a
challenging task to accomplish.
They had to design a BattleMech with the latest CAD-technology and under following terms:
1. Take a classic BattleMech design used in the 3rd Succession War.
2. Construct an OmniMech chassis upon this basis.
3. Suggest weapon configurations for that chassis; at least four but not more than seven.
3. a) The primary configuration has to be based upon the original weapon layout of the
classic design.
3. b) If possible include following configuration types: city-fighter, LRM-support,
fire-support/sniper.
All OmniMechs were graded by a committee and loaded into a battlefield simulation program.
The STG-O was presented by Student Sergej Kronberg.
Capabilities:
Student Kronberg went with a totally different aproach. As many mech pilots made their basic
piloting training in a Stinger and later were switched to a TRC-4B Trainer / CLN-7V
Chamaeleon, he envisioned a light and cheap "omni-trainer" that could be used for piloting
and weapon training while getting accustomed to onmi-technology and its capabilities.
He designed the mech with only very little high-tech (an EndoSteel skeleton) and
deliberately chose single heat sinks to teach heat management even in a 20-tonner.
The primary configuration carries an ER medium laser and machineguns just like its ancestor.
a full complement of jump jets round out the design. It can be used for basic piloting and
basic weapons training just like its ancestor.
The A-configuration switches to a medium pulse laser and flamers. Besides training for those
kinds of weapons it is the variant to train heat management in.
The use of bigger weapons and especially a targeting computer is trained in the
B-configuration. A large laser provides serious firepower and range and is tied to aforesaid
advanced targeting electronics.
The C makes a trainee accustomed to a wide range of battlefield electronics like active
probes, ECM and targeting data aquisition by means of a TAG or in a C3-System. In such
systems the C3-master mostly sits in a vehicle manned by the teacher (among others).
The D-configuration carries light long and short range missile racks. This is also the
version to learn everything about indirect fire and the effects of different types of
ammunition.
At last the E-configuration can introduce trainees to autocannons. Student Kronberg knew
that the Federated Suns (renamed such a mere month before) had a series of light autocannons
in prototype stage and tried to get his hands on the specs but the academy denied access to
this information as it was still classified. Therefore this configuration carries a single
type 2 autocannon with a ton of ammo thats not protected by CASE.
Because of the nature of this design Student Kronbergs work was forewarded to the 14th Sun
Zhang Academy Cadre for evaluation and got some benevolent reviews.
The design was put into trials by the academys battlefield simulation program nevertheless
and got the expected outcome: Most configuration failed. Only the primary configuration
fared well and the B and C were deemed usefull but only in special circumstances.

================================================================================================
