I've been attempting to work on my story since I posted the prologue a while ago, and I've made absolutly no progress on it. I'm having trouble with all the varibles in BT.
The story I'm trying to write revolves around a small group of Mercs who were betrayed by their commander. I want them to be the elite, technologically superior but far inferior in numbers and real capability. For this to be true, I'd have to make them a Clan group. Clans don't use Mercs though, and their honor rules and whole SibKo thing are just not my style. IS mechs are just absolutly sickening to me. I just don't get into ANY of them, I like clan designs much better. I have a problem here.
For this to work out, I'd have to make them an IS group and just not interfere with the clans. I don't want to do this though if I can't, because I want them to have a tech advantge. They're supposed to be a small, elite group. I'm not sure how I'd get them to use Clantech though, because I'm sure as hell not using IS machines. I hate them. Passionatly.
Ultimatly, I'm thinking about just scrapping the BTU and making one of my own where I can tailor it how I want it. It seems like the boundaries of what we have here are too limited for what I'm trying to do. I'd like to change a few things anyways, but some I'd like to retain (weapons systems, mech design). Please, comment on this, I need some good opinions because it just seems like I have a nice monumental task in front of me.

Well...you could always make them a spin-off unit of the Wolf's Dragoons, kind of like Snord's Irregulars...
Or just make them Dark Caste, who don't have to follow the Honor Road...

Ok make the mercs accquire the clantech while in house units before becoming merc, after a little bit in the military they get fed up with all the nasty and constantly soggy food so they go merc where the meals are always out of a bucket or bag.
So the unit is pretty good before they go merc cuz I mean they got clan mechs under them, and only Idiot Mike my best friend can be crapy in a clan mech.
So maybe there's not alot of them but there good, a similar unit to this would be the Black Thorns, they got alot of clantech but there only about a company in size.

Tiger, that sounds like the best way to do it. I wanted to kind of make them like the Black Knight Legion from MW4, and thats a good way to do I. I could have my protagionist, say, court-martialed from one of the factions then have him join up with an already-existing Merc group, taking his 'mech with him (have him break out or something) That sounds good, I don't see any problems with looting ClanTech from the houses.
