Overview:
Description: In 3140 military planners from the Duchy of Tamarind-Abby at the behest of
Fontaine Brett-Marik, and in the wake of lessons learned from Operation Hammerfall would
approach Technicron Manufacturing with an ambitious proposition. They would negotiate for
the company to establish a new mech-production facility on Gibraltar. This would support
Fontaine's initiative to expand domestic military production within his realm. Additionally,
they expressed a desire for a mech that would be well suited to engage in asymmetrical
combat. After intense negotiations and armed with a signed agreement as well as generous
financial assistance Technicron would diligently set about creating a mech that met the
desires of their benefactors.
The design process for the mech would begin at Technicron’s Savanagh facilities while the
production plant on Gibraltar was undergoing construction. Discussions would occur regarding
the use of various clan-grade technologies in the design (Technicron was domestically
producing Clan-grade heats sinks and endo-steal at the time) but it was concluded that those
resources (rare in number and/or hard to procure) were better utilized elsewhere, and none
would make it into the final product. The team would begin the process by testing various
weapon systems on old, easy to obtain, refurbished Assassin battlemechs. As design and
testing continued modifications would be made to various units until the frame itself could
no longer support the systems required. However, lingering elements of the ASNs appearance
would make its way into the new 50 ton skeleton. While some lingering elements of it's
legacy would linger in the appearance some distinctive new features would work their way
into the design during the development process. Notable of these would be the new frame’s
ability to rotate its torso far beyond the ability of most other mechs and the
ball-like-turret head mount which would allow the pilot some degree of horizontal and
vertical movement.
While further testing and final production was due to take place on Gibraltar this would be
shelved by the loss of the planet to the Marian Hegemony. Although unplanned, Savannah would
continue to house the operations for design and production of the new mech, which would be
wrapped up and approved for production by the beginning of 3152. With Gibraltar liberated in
the middle of 3151 repair and construction would recommence on Gibraltar while in the
interim Savannah would produce (in limited quantities) the newly minted Antagonist AST-10M.
Capabilities:
The Antagonist AST-10M would come equipped with a 300 rated XL engine allowing the mech to
hit speeds up to 96 k/mh during normal operations. This woiuld be enhanced with the addition
of a supercharger launching to the mech to speeds of 124 km/h when needed. For its weapons
compliment the AST-10M would feature a plasma rifle in the right arm supported by 2 tons of
ammo. Inserted into its right torso would be a MML-5 also supported with 2 tons of ammo and
protected behind a CASE II system. Mounted high in the left torso would be a Fluid Gun once
again supported by 2 tons of ammo. Finally a standard medium laser would be installed into
the center torso while an er flamer would be placed into the right arm. For protection the
Antagonist would come with an angel ecm and 9 tons of light-ferro armor (152pips). 10 double
heatsinks would be provided for cooling the mech.
Design Quirks: Improved Communications (1), Extended Torso Twist (3), Fast Reload (Plasma
Rifle) (1), Difficult to Maintain (-1)
Variants:
AST-10I: debuting a handful of years after the SOG-10M. the AST-10I's roll is to act as an
interceptor.
