Overview:
The Cataphract heavy hovertank is a new addition to the MHAF, being designed and constructed
during the late Dark Age. Looking to replace the expensive Fulcrum with a more economical
machine, while at the same time, creating something that is better armed and armored than
its progenitor, the Cataphract fulfills these goals admirably, losing only a bit of speed.
In the old paradigm saying in armor design of “speed, armor, weapons; pick two”, whereas
the Fulcrum went with speed and armor, the Cataphract goes with armor and weapons.
Capabilities:
Going a different route from the Fulcrum, which had a pair of lasers and a mid-sized
long-range missile launcher for weapons, the Cataphract instead ops for a light PPC with
integrated PPC capacitor, allowing it to make attacks as powerful as a standard particle
cannon, as its main weapon. Backing this is a small medium-range missile launcher tied into
an Apollo fire-control system and fed from a ton of missiles. Closer in, a trio of small
short-range missile racks can be used to strike enemies from multiple angles. Finally, a
quartet of machine guns helps protect from enemy infantry.
10.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating layer the frame of this tank, and the ammunition is
stored in bays protected by CASE. This provides excellent defense to the tank and its crews.
Where the Cataphract is lacking in comparison to the Fulcrum is its speed. Topping out at
slightly over 120 kph, its is far slower than its predecessor's near 150 kph top speed.
Deployment:
Currently being deployed to the armored forces of the most prestigious units with the Marian
Hegemony, those facing the tank at first believed they were facing a horde of Drillsons, as
the two tanks are quite visually similar. It’s was only after the combat records were
studied that the truth was revealed.
