which single piece of 3050 clan equipment would you invest your nation's RnD and industrial infrastructure funds into mass producing? Why?
I was going to ask these two polls as a single question but the polls are limited and couldn't fit 18 items. So you get to invest in two items. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

While I think most will say the XL (which is an obvious choice), I am personally attracted to Endo-Steel. ES is just so cost effective compared to FF and XL. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I actually went with integrated CASE on this one. I can see pros for everything, to be honest. But not having to spend weight and space for something that makes my mech not go BOOM is pretty darn important to me. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I voted endo because I try to avoid putting things on my mech that make them go BOOM... _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

Fun fact, I had to edit the poll to add this option because it skipped my mind originally. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

The way I see it, the two most obvious choices are Clan XL engines and Clan DHS’s.
The latter saves you a crit in comparison to IS/SL ones, and you can therefore put them in your legs.
The former saves you a crit in each side torso, and therefore, the ‘Mech doesn’t die immediately if it loses a side torso.
I voted for the latter as it edges out the former in importance.

Clan DHS
It's the one piece of tech that helps out any style of mech.
Basic trooper with no other advanced tech. Still useful.
High end every bell and whistle design? Can still be used.
Plus by switching to Clan DHS you can fit even more heat capacity into a mech which will allow greater firepower then any other option. It's the difference between 2 ER PPCs or 3 ER PPCs.

Definitely the XL engine. The other systems are neat, but the greatest impact on survivability would be the XL engine that can survive the destruction of side torso. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

The cDHS system benefits so many, many machines. Yes the cXL helps with survivability so that could be argued as being the better choice. I still went with cDHS. _________________ The JadeDragon

I'd figure the following, as a Clanner, Wolf, in particular.
XL FE's due to the fact that one can lose a side torso and still fight. My personal logic as to how this is done is that Light Engines make sense as a way to have the Clans make headway, much like the IS did, just that by doing so, it comes as the same: 3/4ths the weight, 2 Crits in each ST. Upping that to 50% weight and 2 Crits in each side torso is the thing that took around 50-100 years for the Clans to develop, and no Succession Wars to stifle it.
Clan DHS's are a must, second only to XL FE's, due to the two crits being vastly easier to deal with than three. I have been designing some IS OmniMechs as produced by the Clans for IS sales, and the crit impact per sink is vital.
ES affects a much broader range of designs before FF, however, for the IS, it's vastly easier to have Std and FF lying around than ES, which is more specific and hard to work with, being something the IS hasn't logisically invested into to make their repair work easier. The Clans know how to work with both ES and FF more easily, however, so there's this claim.
FF is something that the Clans made take up half the crits, just like ES, while also moving the multiplier from 1.1 x 8 to 1.2, moving from 9 to 10. SSW's doesn't really reflect this accurately, however, the move is just refinement, so it's not impossible to do so.
All in all, the two most immediate choices I'd make would be XL FE, DHS's, then, ES & FF. Weapons can be done, will be done, and the simple battlefield performance for what the cost per benefit per C-Bill ratio just means that getting things for the IS in that order seems best to me.

Strangely, the IS LFE (light fusion) was developed in the reverse direction. It was originally developed in the 3060s if memory serves by the Wolf's Dragoons as an analog to the more compact Clan XL using IS industrial technology. This resulted in the 3/4 weight but same compact profile. The Clan XL directly descends from the Star League XL but micronized. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Double heat sinks are the single most impressive piece of tech. The majority of my pre-clan IS mechs struggle with heat management, even just going from 10 to 20 engine heat sinks means every gun can fire every turn.
Improved engines and armour is nice, but fitting an extra ten heat for "free" completely overhauls how a mech can fight.

While true, the question posited was what 1 piece of Clan grade tech would you invest in to be mass produced by your house. Engine provided DHSs are just as effective regardless of if they are IS spec or Clan spec; expect in mechs with small engines. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
