Different. Biggest issue I have with it is 85 tons and nothing that inflicts more than 5 damage in any location unless shots happen to land in the same place.
That plus the limited grand speed combined to most stuff only hitting at 15 hexes or less also limits the design. I would seriously consider pulling a couple of the er smalls for a capacitor for the light ppc, so you can at least have something doing 10 damage at range.
Not having case for the ammo is also a concern.

Valid.
RE: CASE...
My thinking was that Angel ECM/Void and Blue Shield on top of the Hardened Armour means 60 damage to crack a side torso. That's going take a while. By then the bins are running low, and the torso crit slots are are taken, making an ammo hit less likely.
RE: Capacitor...
I've never used one, so it didn't even occur to me. My understanding is that (if employed) the weapon basically only fires every other round (for an extra 5 damage), but you gain 5 heat each around anyway? I probably have that wrong.
The design was just intended to hang a bunch of precision ammo spitin' LAC/5's onto a very robust frame.
The LPPC was a compromise to use the remaining heat budget for damage at range.
The lasers used the remaining tonnage and all free crit slots, leaving your fists of fury for point blank defense.
It's like a walking Patton (or maybe standing still to get the full Void bonus); Under-gunned but freakin' resilient.

Thing is, I don’t think the program is doing the patchwork hardened right. Unless something’s changed, it was my understanding that having hardened armor most places but the head decreases your running speed by a hex.
I might have that wrong though.
In any case, whether four hexes or 5 movement at top speed, you are slow. So, unless you manage to ambush someone, most designs will be able to avoid you because you can’t intercept or keep up with them.
Not having much long range firepower, especially that hits for appreciable damage, means that you might be hanging around for a while, but are you actually going to matter in the long run of the game?

You're only slowed if you have Hardened on the legs, which is why this one doesn't. They're chunky to begin with and I hope to use partial cover at times to mitigate damage.
Virtually every skirmish I've participated in has has either been on a fixed map and/or with fixed objectives. Anything like a King-of-the-Hill, defend/assault X, or destroy enemy units type of scenario illustrates my point. And range 15 isn't exactly knifepoint. Obviously situations vary. If you're up against elite, long-ranged enemies that don't have to hold a fixed objective of any sort, have a floating map, and no time constraints... Yeah, you're in deep, deep do-do.
But in a (to me) more typical engagement:
His Regular Gunner base of 4
At long range +4
Me standing still with Void +3
Partial cover (level 1 water), or light woods +1
He's on boxcars to connect, with PPC's doing half damage. He's gonna be plinking away for an awfully long time. If he moved, if I found heavy woods to stand in, or there is a clump of lights in the way; He's SOL.
Just like the ol' AC/2 Warrior VTOL banging through an entire ton of ammo, workable in theory, but not exactly a fun night at the gaming table.
Your opponent is going to be obligated to close in, or stand there while you trundle up. I chose a 10 round load-out of ammo with half of that time firing precision ammo. If you're on a longer running mission, go with all regular for a 15 round endurance.
