Overview:
A product of Clan zellbrigen, the Sand Harrier is a head hunter design notorious for
challenging and killing mechs larger then itself.
Capabilities:
Twenty micro-pulse lasers and a targeting computer provides deadly accurate firepower. The
high ground speed is further augmented by MASC allowing the pilot to position the mech in
the rear of its target with reasonable ease. Somewhat light armor means it's pilot must
take advantage of all the cover it can until close enough to make a formal challenge per
Clan honor dueling rules.
Deployment:
The SLDF first learned of the Sand Harrier during the reclamation of Huntress. Even in the
free for all battles as the SLDF fought for time retreat the Sand Harrier preformed well.
It's pulse laser batteries could obliterate infantry and other light units with ease. But
Sand Harrier pilots had a special passion for cutting down any captured Dire Wolves they got
near earning its Inner Sphere designation as the Daisy Cutter.

Archivist's notes:
This is another example of the United Freemen's home universe having different physical laws
then we now posses. Though the Pulse Tcom mix would still be nasty, it wouldn't be
devastating. But the basic idea for the mech is still potent. I'll send the file to R&D.
They should be able to come up with something for marketing.
Notable MechWarriors:
The Sand Harrier is a genetically engineered pest control measure used on Babylon to
diacourage Goliath Scorpions from living to close to human settlements. The bird hunts by
flying low across the ground and pecking at a Goliath scorpions deadly stinger as it swoops
past. The claws are removed next, at which point the Sand Harrier has earned a tasty meal.
The species can only be found near human settlements due to a water intake need greater then
can be supported by Babylon's deep deserts.

because it would allow the mech to get in close with less missile fire hitting it as this design looks to be a closed ranged striker

True. Which is why the concept went to 55 tons when going all out.
Also if it's being shot at effectively while it's trying to close the distance, it's doing something wrong. I got to use it a few times in double blind games with zellbrigen active. The trick was to keep the obvious opponents out of line of sight from the enemy until this thing could pop into the back of their Direwolf. At which point they become a duel, and I'm free to use my own assault mechs to engage smaller targets.
And one of the better tricks for getting close without being seen/shot at is to go prone behind level 1 terrain.
