Though I have to be honest. I wake up this morning disenchanted. Why you ask? (no you didn't but to bad!)
The scene: a beautiful country highway that curves around a lake. A few small cluster of trees dots the otherwise serene scenery.
The shock: A lance of bot controlled Battlemechs (BV 4110) are moving up the highway to go raid somewhere (Lynx, Hoplite, Bombardier, Commando)
The defense: An Orion and a Panther, three Goblin tanks, and multiple platoons of mechanized SRM/MG infantry (BV 4100).
I won in six rounds. I fired that damned AC on the Orion almost every turn and just could NOT land a hit. My poor Orion got sliced to pieces as I got surrounded by the mechs. My infantry took down the Hoplite so many times that he actually decapitated himself. They also took down the Lynx. I got lucky on the Bombardier, I had an SRM Goblin that got a crit on the LRM ammo. It was not available for Salvage.
My best outcome was the Commando. I captured the pilot of the Lynx, and the Commando mostly intact.

See, that's the problem with the AC/10. And when I say problem, it's really perception. The AC/10 is actually a great weapon, but it doesn't set itself apart from something like a PPC. 10 damage is great, but very rarely memorable.
Now the AC/20... you can hit just once per ton of ammo, and for some reason that carnage that it levies more then makes up for the other misses!

Yeah I agree with this. It doesn't have the "oomph" you'd want. An SRM-6 - for all it's faults - is kind of a better weapon because when it DOES hit, it has a tendency to be a super big pain in the butt for the target.
But here's the thing: I REALLY want to like the AC/10. There is something about that 5/10/15 range bracket which is just perfection. I want to have fun with this weapon. I just need to find the right platform, and I'm thinking tanks are the answer to that.
