Overview:
Largely due to the success of the original VTR-10Dr (Doctor), the production line was
upgraded in the late 3090s so that a new and improved design could be manufactured. The
upgraded design was designated VTR-10Dr2, and featured many upgrades. The bulky Endo Steel
structure was replaced with an advanced and more compact Endo-Composite structure. The 320
LFE of the -10Dr was replaced with a Clan XL 320 Engine, and the heat sinks were upgraded to
Clan models, to allow an easier integration of the engine and reduce production costs/ time.
The -10Dr2 retains its four Jump Jets, but they have been replaced with the latest and most
reliable model (as of 3102).
Next, all the weapons systems were upgraded. The VTR-10Dr2 utilises a similar configuration
to its predecessor, with a (C) Ultra AC/20 and 5 tons of ammunition, a (C) Streak SRM-6 with
1 ton of reloads, two (C) Medium Pulse Lasers and a (C) Er Small Laser. (C) CASE II protects
the 'Mech's vitals and its Mechwarrior from any ammunition explosion, while a C3 Slave
allows the -10Dr2 to share targeting information with lancemates. Finally, the armor was
increased by half a ton, to the maximum coverage possible on an 80 tonner.
While being more expensive than the original Doctor due to the new XL engine, a secure
supply of Clan parts from Clan Sea Fox combined with the fact that the assembly lines were
far from any war zones meant that production proceeded quickly. This, combined with the
high-quality, no-corners-cut approach, meant that by 3108 a half dozen 'Mechs were being
sold each month.
