Targeting & Tracking: Dalban HiRez II
================================================================================================
Overview:
The multiple successes of the new Gallowglas Battlemech prompted Blackwell to begin a study
on the possibility of using the design as a base for a new line of Mechs. The Cannon is the
first of these new experimental machines.
The GAL-2DSM (for Down-Sized Model) is a scaled down version the Gallowglas. Like its
larger brethren is is equipped solely with energy weapons, eliminating any dependency on
ammunition, an Endo-Steel skeleton, to save weithy, and a standard engine, to increase
battlefield survival and reduce construction cost.
Capabilities:
The main punch of the Cannon, and the source of its name, is the torso-mounted Sunbeam large
laser. Although this extended range model generates a lot more heat (more, in fact that the
heat sinks can normally handle), it does provide an excellent punch for so light a design.
Unfortunately, the Cannon also suffers from some deficiencies, The choice of standard heat
sinks instead of double strength models reduces the machine's endurance, while the absence
of jump jets is a major shortcoming. However, these flaws may be corrected by use of
Clan-level technology, which Blackwell is reported to have.

This would have been a nice machine for the clan invasion era, but after 3055 there is little reason to go with the SHSs, which would in turn allow you to use standard armour, or to go with a 140 rated reactor. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

There are plenty of in-game reasons. Availability, finances, etc. I applaud folks who design machines around single heat sinks instead of just slapping doubles on it! Yes, it's limiting, but it shows spunk! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Indeed, but then you had better mentioned why do you go with the less efficient option. If there is something that justifies it's cost in Battletech, it's usually the inclusion of DHS technology, which is widely available in 3061. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
