Overview:
The Wraith is a design that became quite popular after its introduction on the battlefield
in the mid-3050?s, due to its combination of high speed and mobility, thick armor for its
size and impressively accurate firepower. What is not widely known that the first prototype
was actually developed by a different company back in the early 3030?s.
Capabilities:
Back in 3032, the Thermopolis branch of Kallon Industries was looking to develop a faster
supplement to its enormously popular Wolverine-6M. Using that design as a basis, their
engineers looked to take the best of its features and make it better.
Unfortunately, they just didn?t have the tech to make it work.
Their prototype Wraith had most of the speed and mobility desired; as it could obtain ground
speeds of almost 100 kph, and leap 180 meters at a time, matching some of the most loved
scouts and skirmishers. It had most of the firepower they wanted, being equipped with a
large laser backed by a pair of medium lasers.
But it lacked the heat sinks to make truly effective use of that firepower and mobility, and
the large size of the engine used up so much mass that only 8 tons of armor could be fitted.
The engineers realized at that time that their new design was little more than an overweight
Davion variant Phoenix Hawk, and an over-priced, less effective one at that.
Deployment:
Realizing that going forward with the design would cut into their sales of the Wolverine-6M,
and potentially damage their company?s reputation, the decision was made not to proceed
forward with the design. It was not until some 20 years later that a former Kallon
Industries engineer that had been recruited by the newly developing Curtiss Militech revived
the design, and, using recovered Star League technology, produced the ?Mech his former team
had envisioned so many years ago.
