Karagin, anyone else who is a G. I. Joe fan, this will affect you.

Hasbro, since the 80's, has sub-contracted to regional toy manufacturers to make its G. I. Joe products so that Hasbro can focus on releasing and marketing in the US. One of these regional factories is Funskool, located out of India, who has held the rights since 1988. However, due to confusion with the name 'Playskool' (which Hasbro owns) and the lack of overall quality compared to the US figures, the US Customs department has been growing increasingly suspicious of the Funskool figures over the past few years, as Hasbro's own blunders have turned fans over to Funskool. Hsabro has decided that, past a certain date which apparently has not yet been set, they will simply disavow Funskool's ability to import into the US, thereby allowing Customs to sieze and possibly even destroy the figures. All this because Hasbro doesn't want Funskool cutting into their profits anymore.

If Hasbro had really wanted to do this amiably and logically, they would have simply asked for all the molds back from Funskool or something along those lines back in '97, with Hasbro's failed attmept to relaunch the figure line, in which they used Funskool's molds to do it with.

I am now officially upset.

Where are you people tracking these reports down?

Hasbro's maufacturing hasn't been in teh US in a loooong time. The Aisan market is the key to production.

Current GI Joe figure sales are extremely high, and are doing quite well. They're made in several facilities, all of which are part of the Hasbro umbrella, and, thus, all send profits to daddy.

The offbrand knockoffs which use molds based on the old figures (The Core! for example) have no connection to Hasbro, and Hasbro cannot in any way, shape, or form make Customs tackle n burn these.

Chalk another one up to urban legend, here.

No urban legend. Hasbro *has* been using liscencees to produce figures for other areas for years- for instance, Palitoy in Europe and Plastirama in parts of South America.

Yes, Hasbro's manufacturing is outside of the States, but that's a different thing. Hasbro is essentially saying that, despite what the older fans and possibly some of the newer ones want, they'll just get rid of an inconvieniant competitor in the US market.

Go to their action figures submenu, and then to the Funskool items; or:

www.yojoe.com

and go to their store. Funskool is a legit organization, but not anymore- at least, not according to Hasbro as far as their US markets are concerned.
