================================================================================================
Overview:
Built on the frame work of the old GRF-1A Griffin, the 60 ton primitive version of the
modern medium BattleMech, the GRP-4A Gryphon has been modified from a long range sniper to a
short range brawler.
Capabilities:
Though maintaining the overall appearance of the primitive Griffin, the Gryphon is built
around an extralight Vlar 300 fusion engine paired up with both a supercharger and a myomer
acceleration signal circuitry system, enabling the design to run in bursts just over 140
kph. Its jump jet system has been expanded over the original base model to allow for leaps
up to 150 meters at a time. This mobility allows it to close range with most enemies very
quickly, which is fortunate, as its weapons are designed to make the 'Mech a close-range
slugger.
The central weapon of the Gryphon's arsenal is a snub-nose particle cannon tied into a
capacitor. Backing this weapon are a pair of standard medium lasers, and a 5 rack
multi-missile launcher with an Artemis IV fire-control system. This last weapon is equipped
with 3 tons of ammunition, which allows the pilot to carry a range of both long-range and
short range missiles tailored to fit each mission.
To protect this 'Mech, the Gryphon mounts 12 tons of standard armor plate, and the MML-5's
ammunition is stored in a bay protected by CASE II. As a final measure of protection, the
engineer's added a Guardian ECM suite.
Deployment:
The Gryphon is currently being sold to virtually all customers, with the lion's share going
to the mercenary market.

I am happy to see a rename on this design since the mission profile is so different from the Griffin, even if it follows a similar weapons layout. _________________ The JadeDragon

Well, I could have gone the old route of adding a "II" or something to the original name, but with having different spellings of the name available, I figured why not do that instead?
And besides, the miniature of the primitive Griffin just looks too good not have an effective (or so I'd like to think) modernized version with which to use it...and my thanks go to Mordel for it, as the primary reason I have it (and my primitive Rifleman is because of the contest he held a little while back...

I've been having fun with Cannonshop's "Hey Y'all! Hold my Beer!" vehicle design contests over on the other board...just got done designing a combat effective (I think) VTOL that has a movement rate of 18/27(36)...
It's also gotten me on an introductory battle tank design kick...really liking my 35 ton Lynx light tank and I have one I will likely post soon that is a 75 tonner I've named the Guderian MBT...
