BattleMech: Hunchback HBK-5S
Rating: 5.00
Comment: The definitive best Hunchback (at least prior to 3061)

The light fusion engine means it is lighter to house all these goodies and losing a torso isn't instant death (although personally I would be fine with an XL because in almost virtually every Hunchback design, the asymmetrical layout means that one torso cannot exist without the other, whether because the gun is gone or the ammo is)

Jump jets for that sweet sweet mobility and the possibility of AC20ing a back

LB 20-X means more range, and the addition of cluster just makes this an amazing crit seeker. Seriously, on average you're hitting 16 pellets. 20 rounds of shooting fixes the ammo problem

Medium lasers are upgraded to pulse! Really helps with compensating the jump drawbacks. And you still have the signature small laser :)

BattleMech: Awesome AWS-9M
Rating: 4.50
Comment: Sure the XL Engine is a big flaw, but you got reviews here complaining about heat sinks

Problem is, THERE'S NO ROOM! Look at the distribution chart and tell me WHERE are there 3 slots in a row to house anymore DHS? Those streak SRMs and extra pulse lasers I have little doubt are more there to fill up the tonnage.

An imperfect design, especially since one lucky elemental criting the leg can mean BOOM, but I'm raising my review because I feel people are knocking this down more than it deserves simply out of wishing for improvements that are impossible with IS tech

BattleMech: Puma (Adder) C
Rating: 1.50
Comment: Too many Narc/TAG equipped mechs have this issue. They carry the missiles and the spotting equipment. The only saving grace is that Clanners don't have minimum range on their LRMs.

This is the A variant, except they decided to take down 10 missiles tubes in favor of a NARC system. It all hinges on getting close, planting the beacon, then turning around and running away to a safe distance to start shooting. Then when the target or NARC gets blown up, do it all over again. All this with only 115 armor and no jump jets for that speedy escape.

BattleMech: Puma (Adder) A
Rating: 5.00
Comment: Underrated. If you're using BV this is the perfect mech to bring as a cheap Clan fire support option. My friends and I love this mech whenever each of us play clans. It's an IS Archer packed into a 35 ton chassis at more speed to help run away from anything heavier than a light mech.

(Though if you're playing with C-bills then I would definitely recommend the Prime variant)

BattleMech: Axman AXM-1N
Rating: 4.50
Comment: A close range weapon, but one that has served me well. It hits above its weight thanks to the weapons. Being an axe wielding beat stick, this is the perfect thing to deter close range attacks at your lance

BattleMech: King Crab KGC-000b
Rating: 5.00
Comment: Giving it a 5 because it's underrated and does everything a King Crab should then makes it better. Twice the ammo, enough heat sinks to fire the cannons, laser and still run all to make it 0 heat. The LRMs have Artemis now, even though it will still only be able to shoot 8 turns. In addition, there's still the fusion engine, so that means losing a side torso won't mean death, making it a true juggernaut when combined with all that armor. The only con is the ACs aren't LB-X or Ultra, but they can't all be gems.

BattleMech: Nightstar NSR-9J
Rating: 5.00
Comment: An absolute BEAST that can dish out as much as an Awesome over a longer range and with the armor to take on any long-range counterattack and not even flinch. Just don't let something nasty ever get behind it for more than two turns, or else it goes to the grave. Kill those JJ mechs before they become a threat to it with their crit seekers attacking the rear torso
