here's what an ex GameStop manager told me are the 7 reasons why he quit GameStop to get a better job (he's now working for the US Government at a Federal Trade Commission office)
1, This name "GameStop" implies to stop and play only one game ("Game" in "GameStop" is a singular noun), and when most people determine this they are least likely to become interested, thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease;
2, "GameStop" official store signs only have 3 colors (red, white, and black) so this will only attract consumers that's allegiance to countries/states/local government/political parties only has those 3 colors on their flags, and thus most people won't purchase any games from GameStop anymore thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease;
3, GameStop only sells up to date games and that means less games (the previously designed games) aren't for sale and thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease;
4, GameStop doesn't advertise it's "GameStop" store names in gaming magazines or on TV, newspaper, radio, and so less people will know about GameStop stores thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease;
5, GameStop employees (the ones i've encountered at various GameStop stores) are emotionless and that frightens potential customers and so said customers won't go to GameStop stores anymore thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease;
6, the US economy is in shambles because more than half of all US schoolchildren and college graduates that owe $ for loans to pay tuitions are living in poverty so they can't afford to purchase games thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease; and
7, videogame companies are now having more and more videogames downloadable for fees thus said companies won't sell them to GameStop stores thus sales at GameStop stores will substantially decrease and thus profits will substantially decrease and thus eventually soon all GameStop stores will be discontinued. _________________ "Okay friendlies, you're not paid to be exclusively a 'MechWarrior', vehicle/spacecraft crewer, fighter pilot, or infantry trooper. This list is ridiculous. The one and only thing that will kill brick and mortar game stores is the same thing that killed brick and mortar video stores. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Aye, things going online. Steam and other such services have the games often cheaper and they make regular sales as well. Physical game products are a luxury, that needs some added value, so collectors editions etc. will be gradually taking over IMO. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

AlayneLeung, i don't think GameStop stores will be "ended" as you put it, but they will lose sales and thus they'll lose profits, and note that i disagree with most of your "reasons" but i do agree with a couple of your "reasons" as i'll now explain
1, i disagree because most, if not all GameStop stores do list various game console names on the front of their stores, and GameStop's website does have numerous game consoles and games for sale; not to start a political discussion, but i do think that "GameStop" name could imply to a potential customer at first glance of said name that GameStop is a political action committee to get games outlawed by promoting that any game must be stopped, or if combined with your 2nd reason, a potential customer might initially believe GameStop is a club to play a boardgame such as checkers given GameStop's red & white & black trademark name "GameStop", but after looking at the front of the store and through the clear glass windows, i'm sure said customer would think "wow, there's many games to purchase from GameStop". Had i been the President or CEO (or whoever leads GameStop), i would've named each GameStop store "Wonderfully Fun Exciting Games", also, customers can understand that when they search through yellow pages of telephone books under "gamestores" or "games", that "GameStop" stores are worth going to, and so for the very most part, there's no important need to worry about GameStop name's spelling;
2, i'm with you and Sleeping Dragon on this one; yeah, "GameStop" name must be more appealing and multicolored and not look so Naziish, to have improvement like say one color of rainbow per letter with the eighth one being gray or black and perhaps a gold oval surrounding that "GameStop" name sort of like the way Nintendo has an oval around "Nintendo" name, yes it's true GameStop can't put all its eggs in one basket (or in this case, just the black, red, and white baskets);
3, i totally disagree because i think most (if not all) old egames can be downloaded/played online for one or more fee(s) and so your third "reason" is invalid, and i like NES games of the '80s (that NES puzzle game Bmberman is a game i'd like to play), SNES (Firepower 2000) and Sega Genesis (Pirates Gold!) and Sega CD games of the mid '90s, and yeah, i like games that came out after 1998 also;
4, i totally disagree because your fourth "reason" is in valid since advertising would cause prices of games to increase to pay for said advertising and such increases of prices could deter customers from buying games and so sales and profits would decrease significantly;
5, which GameStop store(s) specifically had unfriendly sales people?you should contact GameStop website and recommend how they can be more friendly towards customers; the GameStop store i was at had a very friendly saleswoman, so i doubt most GameStop employees are unfriendly towards potential customers, and since you didn't list the GameStop store(s) you've had unfriendly experiences at, i hope you're not being prejudice towards all GameStop store employees based upon your experience in what i presume was one or two visit(s) to just 1 or 2 GameStop store(s), therefore for the most part i'm very much disagreeing with your fifth "reason";
6, not to get into real life politics (policies/laws/orders), but i agree, and it's not just the US economy "in shambles" but other countries' economies also; more and more multitudes of people are going to live in poverty due to more and more multitudes of robots/drones/software replacing humans that do jobs unless there's a huge benevolent improvement of economic conditions on earth, also many people have been selling egames to get $ instead of purchasing them, and many people are spending huge amounts of time looking for jobs and/or currently working paycheck to paycheck to care for themselves and their family members; also, many people are saving as much money for their children & grandchildren & etc. because scientists have predicted that earth's resources will expire about 2030 or 2050 at best, most people are going to be working very hard (perhaps even lots of community service volunteer work) to have work experience for their resumes while they wait to get hired (said people won't have time for egames) and so the cost of living will skyrocket, and so unessential products such as egames won't sell well and thus profits of GameStop will decrease;
7, disagree because most people don't trust downloadable egames (the smart ones, that is) because they and i are afraid of being charged huge amounts of $ for downloads) unless media says the egame websites can be trusted; most likely egames will be sold in stores in the future. KMart tried having electronic self checkout lanes but quit when most customers quit using them and complained to KMart management;
here's my 2 cents or perhaps 3 cents (pun intended) given how i'm posting 3 reasons of my own for your list, though, and they are:
8, most electronic games aren't very multilingual, and so they won't be selling to most consumers that reside on earth unless most people on Earth are fluent with English, so sales will be lessened unless video games are more multilingual or more people start speaking English so they can play more video games;
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_English-speaking_population
9, many electronic games (but fortunately not all of them) are each for just 1 or 2 players and that means groups of friends can't teamworkly, or rather i should say "teamplayly", play egames together that's why some students (not necessarily most students) frown on and bully egame players at schools; i noticed you mentioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & BattleTech egame combo on General Discussion forum, well the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) video game is an example i'll use to describe what i'm getting at, because when that egame was released, the adapter for 5 players simultaneously playing a few SNES egames had already been available for customers, but TMNT TIT for SNES only allows just a max of 2 players simultaneously at a time to play that egame despite said adapter already being available and how there are 4 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the franchise, not to mention other heroes and heroines that could have been programmed in that game that players could choose from and the coin operated version did allow 4 TMNTs at a time throughout that egame from beginning to end of said coin operated egame;
10, some egame companies, such as Nintendo, don't allow their copyrighted/trademarked egame nouns for use by other persons for "fanenjoyment designs", and so given how Nintendo doesn't trust its fans, eventually said fans won't trust Nintendo anymore and therefore Nintendo won't get more sales for more profits and the same will befall GameStop, but Nintendo has developed an electronic game design that allows customers to design custom Super Mario games using various Super Mario game graphics & music & mechanics, so at this rate, Nintendo is beginning (and hopefully will continue) to understand that fanenjoyments will benefit Nintendo very much in the very near future, so Nintendo & GameStop will probably have some profits if Nintendo keeps becoming more openminded. _________________ any BT information that i post should not be considered official BT information unless said BT information that i post can be legally quoted from a published up to date BT product

Despite 200 GameStop stores closing, 600 new GameStop stores have opened for business, but a blonde haired lean build guy on Nightly Business Report said earlier in 2018 that GameStop sales fell by I think he said 17% in first quarter (whatever that means). GameStop will exist forever because most people aren't going to fall anymore for online traps of unregulated automatic price gouging increasing for online sales of game products. Note that more and more robots, that look like people, are going to be working in businesses to take people's jobs (just look at Japanese hotels), so when the robots take over, we'll have more GameStop stores and more time for more playing of more games and thus more GameStop stores will open and that chain reaction continues hopefully indefinitely!

Magicaldeveloper, you’ve posted many true reasons why GameStop perhaps could likely lose more sales, though; but magicaldeveloper, FedComBoy, and everyone else, seems as though Mordel and Sleeping Dragon most likely hit the nail on the head because I also had been watching Nightly Business Report, and a high ranking GameStop leader (I think he was a Vice CEO and/or Vice President of GameStop) said on NBR I think in December of 2018 that the main reason why GameStop is losing so many sales is because there are free downloadable electronic games that have been taking more and more players away from games that GameStop has for sale. Each of the two local GameStop stores, that’re near where I live (a third GameStop store got discontinued) , are each trying to save so much $ , that they don’t even keep their indoor lights on when a customer isn’t by the front door of said store; the store employees only use their computer cash register screenlight to see inside! For the record, I sincerely give you all my word that I’m not: AlayneLeung, magicaldeveloper, FedComBoy, HeroChip, nicewitch, Tyler O’Dell, PlaywithLAMs, nor am I any other banned member; and if you declare or ask or insist if I am any, some, or all of the aforementioned banned hubeings, then Mordel can feel free to instantly and absolutely and permanently and unconditionally surrender this entire Mordel.net website to me; or for all I care, he can ban for during the remainder of eternity anyone that dares to ask or declare or insist that I am any, some, or all of the aforementioned banned hubeings.

The best part is, s/he comes in already knowing we're going to think they are the same person. But how in the hell will someone who isn't the same person actually have any point of reference to do that? The lunacy is mind-boggling. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
