Im working on my own program for designing mechs. It is going to include all TW stuff and be freely downloadable. I have a partially working version finished and I need people to test it. Download archive from files.nebulastation.net/meklab_01_03.zip , extract the files somewhere and run meklab_01.exe. Thanks.

Which will also require a paid update...
But meh, I still agree. No real need for another free editor these days. HMPro just has too much of a dedicated development and is very well done.

I have to agree with what others have said. There just isn't enough of an audience out there for it to be worth making another designer. Now, if you are simply doing it for your own pleasure, then enjoy. You may get some folks who love it and will use it. But a large majority will always use HMP as it is the official editor and is also very well done.

I am glad to see that you have an interest in making an editor...it looks great.

But I agree with the rest, you are re-inventing the wheel.

HM series of programs are the ones that are fully supported by CBT, thus official.

We have other designers out that are fan based, like the Drawing Board, which was and is a decent design program. Same for the Vehicle Factory.

Mekworks and others from the Win95 days and before...all were decent and offered the user something they didn't have before a faster and easier way to design mechs.

Your's looks to be a fun and simple program and as Mordel said some will use it, but the rest will stay with HM series of programs.

Those who already have HMPro will wait for the upgrade but i think some that use only free Mechdesigners will surely download yours as an alternative to the other free programs. So don't let discourage yourself even if HMPro users won't switch loyality Wink

I use all of the programs, HM series and free, but I do think that re-inventing the wheel isn't going to become anything, unless he ends up convincing Rick to let him out on the HMPro stuff then you are right folks will wait for the update to HMPro and be done with it.
