My design firm, Ground Zero Salvage and Technology, has come into ....um..." possession" of about 100 tons worth of Stealth armor. NOw, My knowledge of BT Tech does not extend to far beyond the BT Compendium, and the Tactical handbook and I try to have GZT reflect this as much as possible in the fluff and designs I create, so I have no real clue as to the stats, benefits and cons of stealth armor and its use. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does the stealth equppied mech retain the ability to use an Angel ECM, and a bloodhound active probe, TAG, Artemis, streak, or C3? _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

Stealth armor takes 2 critical positions in all locations with the exception of CT and head. If you want it to work you need an ECM suite on the 'Mech. When turned on, the stealth armor produces 10 additional heat and makes the 'Mech with stealth target of its own ECM (so no C3, ...). With stealth turned on you can only be attacked as a primary target, you can't be detected with active probes and medium range attacks against you suffer +3 modifier (instead of +2), while long range attacks suffer +6. Stealth can be turned on or of during End Phase.
(BMR revised p. 147)

It's useful on something with long-range low heat weapons or a fast mech that wants to get away. Considering House Liao and their traditional foes: Stealth Armor is good against Davion with all those medium-range weapons. It is not quite as good against Marik, they're often on medium range once Liao gets close enough to shoot at all. Against clanners it's probably just suicide to cripple yourself with extra heat and ECM.

I was considering a fast recon mech. low weapons, good speed. more of a get in, get the info, and get out kinda mission. would be a one time build, not for production. Going into Clan space, get what we want, and run like heck back to the DZ and get out. think it might be effective in this role? _________________ one by one the rabbits are stealing my sanity....

If it will be fast enough and well armored...
Just remember that you need to be prepared for things like Fire Moths (10/15/0 MASC), Vipers (8/12/8) or Cougars (5/8/0, but 2 LPLs).

The ECM is good, the extra heat is bad.
Plus this stuff should be useable on vehicles, but some how that was forgotten about.

When Stealth is activated you're affected by your own ECM as it where an enemies! So it is not good!!

Oh ya, lord forbid you from firing an Artimies Missile or use NARC or C3. Frankly, other then a side bonus ECM is not that great.

Yes, but the installation of 10 additional heat sinks would hurt...

Okay, I have a question, then. Granted, my knowledge of vehicle rules is limited and out dated, so feel free to point out any updates.
The last I knew, since vehicles were 'open air', they could use ballistic type weapons without needing any heat sinks. If a vehicle mounted energy weapons, it was forced to mount heat sinks to compensate.
Since Stealth armor builds up heat when it is active, does that mean a vehicle would have to mount heat sinks to deal with it, or would the open air trait be sufficient?
Also, since vehicles have a nasty tendacy to break under mild hits, I dont know that it would be ecinomically feasable to use something as pricy as Stealth armor on something that breaks so fast.

Vehicles may not mount Stealth Armor. In fact, only 'mechs may mount Stealth Armor. BA armor is a different armor then 'mech stealth armor.
