I'm trying to gauge interest in a new tournament idea. I was wondering how many people have or would play on CCGWorkshop's Gatling Engine?

I've never played on it. Didn't know enough people to want to. The ones I did see playing on it seemed to be too head strong or knew the game too much for my tastes. Even though I credted the Deck Builder, I've rarely played the game save for a few times when it first came out.

If we could strike up interest amongst people here and maybe get a little Mordel's Tounry going on through here, I may look into downloading it.

Gatling is basically an excellent engine for play. There seems to be 3 places of interest for Tech players nowadays, the CCG Yahoo group, gatling, and here.
I've posted my new idea in both those places so here it is for this forum:
---------------------------
had an idea that I thought worth sharing. I think now would be a
great time to take stock of the current state of play in the game by
holding a tournament with a difference.

I propose that we hold a web tournament which will determine at the same
time what the current state of deckbuilding is, and also put emphasis on
playing skill.

Every player will submit 3 deck designs, complete with sideboards, which
will be collected into a group. The pool of deck designs will be cut
down to a third by a committee or or something, and then the play will
be a random series of matches, with some amount of matches against
random opponents.
For each match the players will be sent their deck lists at the
beginning of the week and will have until the end of the week to submit
results.

At the end of the tournament all deck lists will be made public so
people can see what kind of decks people are playing these days.

Selection of the decks to take part in the competition will be done with
an aim to diversity, and showcasing of varied deck designs. There is no
guarantee of course that you will get to play the decks you designed, so
it tests a player's ability to play a variety of deck types.

The performance of the various decks will be charted as well as those of
the players themselves.

Because of the random and revolving nature of deck allocations, it will
not be reasonable to hold a specific semifinal and final, and winners
will just be determined on total points, card differential etc.

Thoughts?

I would honestly have to sit out. As far as playing goes, I'm a newbie, so don't really have any strategy or know the best way to play a deck.

I tried this engine once, but it was still too buggy at this time

I left the Yahoo!group for the BT TCG when the owners weren't able to suppress the many SPAM'S which were abusing this list

As long as Box Powers and Alliance cards are not banned, free deployment decks with a lot of cheap units will rule

As it turns out, Box Powers and Alliances _are_ banned.
It puts a little more balance back in the game.
Though perhaps of the Alliances only Star League should be banned.

As Alliances are not banned according to the DCI deck construction rules, can you please tell us which other cards are banned and other differences to the DCI rules ?

Lets see now:
Alliances and Box Powers are banned.
The Reloaded cards are allowed (reworkings of Dasher D, Task Force Serpent, Effective Groundwork, Disguised coordinates and Elite Mechwarrior).
The Promo card Double Overtime is legal.
The Lostech cards (unique to gatling) are legal (basically the Mechs from the basic set).
A few other cards have minor changes, best to check the gatling versions and see if there's any difference.

Non revised versions of revised Mechs are illegal.

The old version of Retrofitted Lasers and Missiles are illegal (I believe)

Most of this info is on the yahoo group.

These rules aren't firm, they're only tentative, I'm just looking for interest atm.

As soon as the gatling engine is available for LINUX too, i am interested.
But right now i am not interested in insalling another WinDOOF program, except DeckBuilder, which might compromise my system

You know, if I had the latest version of Delphi, I could compile the Deck Builder into a LINUX based executable. So, someone head on over to http://www.borland.com and purchase me the Delphi Professional Upgrade Edition.

Also, I believe I read in the forum there that the new version will not incorporate any of those changes that were instituted on Yahoo Groups as there were lots of complaints. Instead it will be what is sanctioned and you, as players, will have the option for what to ban and disallow.

Why don't you use JAVA instead of Delphi ?
With JAVA and Linux your DB would run even on a Playstation2 !

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy Kylix for 250 $ instead of the expensiver upgrade of Delphi ?

When I have the time, I play on Gatling
But I'm guessing Vandervreken already knows this
I think its a great piece of software, and I hope to delve into its depths soonish.
I'm trying to stir up more interest in the battletech forum on CCGW, but we shall have to wait and see how that goes.

It's tough to stir up interest unless you already play. The BT:CCG isn't one of those games where people just want to dive on in. Which is unfortunate, but te truth. The fact they don't make or support the game anymore doesn't help.
