So I'm abusing the BV system again and have hit a few snags on Mordel.net.
First is that technically I can load Inner Sphere ammo into Clan weapons on a mixed tech design. Specifically Thunder Augmented ammmos today. Right now the option doesn't exist, and when I try to cheat by adding a single IS launcher to gain access to add them, They are promptly deleted when I delete the virtual IS launcher.
Second, the BV of Thunder Munitions has changed wildly over the years. Normally a ton of LRM-5 ammo is 6 or 7 BV depending on the tech base. 1 Ton of Thunder Augmented LRM 5 ammo has a BV of 201.6 as of more recent versions of TO:AUE.
Low Priority because face it, what I'm doing is stupid and pedantic and the vast majority of people would never notice the difference.

I thought there was some ruling on the forums some time back that said ammo is not interchangeable between Clan and IS equipment? _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Didn't look in books or search much, but there's this comment: battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=65801.msg1515974#msg1515974.
I know it was asked and answered in an official manner somewhere though. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

To me there are so many problems with that statement because the caveats are not defined well enough. Like, how can an AMS that is capable of firing 12 missiles per ton, somehow be capable of firing missiles much smaller (24 per ton). It's also over 9 years old and was more an answer from Strat Ops, not a "standard" style of play.
There are a lot of other examples as well. It also becomes a tracking/sheet nightmare. Let's say I have a Clan LRM with Clan and IS ammo. The sheet will give the clan ranges, but there will be times you fire the IS ammo, and there's a huge responsibility on the player to know and remember that acts like an IS LRM in that moment.
I'd much prefer a more recent answer with more thought put into it. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

AMS fires bullets. So Clan AMS fires smaller bursts with better aim? Or it still only gets 12 shots per ton when using IS ammo. Honestly Battletech ammo has never made sense. Autocannons don't come in standard bore sizes and firing rates yet the ammo is still magically cross compatible.
Deadfire missiles, another source of tracking nightmares since they modify the range of LRM's too.
I'm not even sure what the forum question would be beyond "Are you sure about this ruling because of realism?" As opposed to other rulings I'm debating fighting because they break previously available options or don't line up with the translation of Total Warfare to Alpha Strike.

I think my general problem is that this is not something explicitly addressed outside of Strategic Operations. I mean, how do you handle the BV. Is Clan LRM BV the same even though it acts like IS LRM ammo? Just so many questions that make it really difficult to implement this without added clarity. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
