I know it’s more balanced like this, but I would suggest moving the ammo and CASE to a side torso ILO of the CT.
Even with CASE, if the ammo is hit (and IIRC) it will still (likely) gut the CT, destroying the ‘Mech. The internal structure still takes full damage from whatever ammo is left, with the excess venting out the rear. Even a pristine unit will be destroyed by such a hit if there is 13 shots left in the bay.
CASE II, OTOH, will prevent all damage but a single point to the internal structure. But it’s not available until much later in universe.
