| When you design a mech to go all out or try to limit cost of the design, like try to sell budget mech but still tough and hard-hitting?

It varies depending on the design. Some I will do one way; some the other.
For this one, I wanted to have the main forward battery to be comprised of re-engineered lasers, but also wanted to keep the targeting computer. Due to the increased weight, especially with the rear facing X-pulse lasers and the small X-pulse for anti-infantry duty (not to mention the extra critical space required), I had to go clan-tech for the engine, heat sinks, endo-composite and TC.
I see this as a design seeing heavy use against the Combine and Clan Snow Raven opponents due to their increased use of special armor types, like ferro-lamellar.
