Overview:
Designed as a comprehensive refit package for the (perceived to be) insufficient Blackjack
BJ-1, the new 'Mech colloquially referred to as the Cardshark had become the subject of an
long-running legal battle between Szechenov Automotive & Tooling Co. and General Motors,
which finally became settled with a belated and inordinately expensive licencing deal of the
Blackjack to the former. This left the company scrambling to try and build up a production
line of spare parts from which to cobble together entire 'Mechs, as opposed to the weapons
refits they had been performing in the past. Still, with renewed interest in the Blackjack
following its spectacular showing on Xhosa VII on 3022, the small Free Worlds League-based
company was able to attract enough investors to become capable of small-scale production
runs while refitting BJ-1 Blackjacks brought in by individual clients.
Szechenov Automotive & Tooling Co. would be left financially reeling from being outcompeted
by mass manufactured newer models of the Blackjack, and would spend the next several decades
limping just ahead of their debtors before settling into an unremarkable status.
Capabilities:
With Szechenov Automotive & Tooling's lack of preparation for full production runs, not
having expected to require such initially, the Cardshark is internally virtually
indistinguishable from the base model Blackjack it was built upon, with the exception of its
primary armaments. In place of the distinctive 40mm Whirlwind-L autocannons, the Cardshark
instead mounts two Delta Dart LRM-10 launchers, fed by two one-ton ammo bins in the side
torsos. A third ammo bin rests in the center torso, reserved for fragmentation or smoke
missiles to add additional tactical capabilities for the 'Mech, able to either provide
comprehensive concealment for its lance or massacre swarms of enemy infantry with relative
impunity. The four Intek medium lasers and Whitworth jump jets are retained in the design to
provide backup direct combat power and either swift maneuvering or escape.
