Overview:
    The Carronade was originally designed after the end of the First Succession War as a
    close-range brawler and urban combat specialist capable of destroying anything smaller than
    itself as quickly as possible.   The design considered as a top priority at the time as
    Defiance Industries was still able to manufacture Star League ?Mechs.   However, in the wake
    of the Second Succession War the lower-tech nature of the Carronade design made it more
    feasible as the Defiance manufactory could still produce the chassis.   The design went into
    limited production in 2995.

Capabilities:
    The Carronade is a simple, solid chassis built around delivering maximum firepower at close
    range while carrying as much armor as the chassis could support.   That firepower is
    centered around the twin Defiance ?MechHunter heavy-caliber autocannon.   Supplied with 4
    tons of ammunition each, the Carronade carries enough for most battles.   A pair of Defiance
    B3M medium lasers provide a minimum of defensive firepower for when a ?MechWarrion  needs to
    withdraw to resupply.   The Carronade has enough heat sinks to keep the waste heat generated
    by the massive autocannon from reaching catastrophic levels.
    
    The most unusual feature of the Carronade are the massive Smythe Type 100 jump jets.
    These give the ?Mech an unexpected level of tactical maneuverability in the urban conditions
    the Carronade was designed for.   The chassis was specially reinforced to absorb the
    crushing forces generated by landing from a jump, with special attention being placed on the
    autocannon mountings to keep the weapons from being jarred out of alignment.   ?MechWarriors
    assigned to the Carronade have found that the massive weight of the big ?Mech is well-suited
    to delivering devastating damage by jumping on smaller ?Mechs.

Deployment:
    The Carronade is not a common design due both to its low importance and the time and
    resources needed to manufacture the reinforced chassis.   Still, the design has proven quite
    popular among the Donegal Guards assault ?MechWarriors when it is available.   The Carronade
    is often found alongside more common assault designs such as the Banshee and the Atlas,
    where its close-range ferocity complements the long-range firepower of the other?Mechs.

Variants:
    The only known variant of the Carronade replaces the jump jets with four additional Defiance
    medium lasers and additional heat sinks.   While the Carronade loses some maneuverability,
    it adds to its already  fearsome close-range firepower.
