Overview:
The "Striking Scorpion" is a functional field upgrade converting the original SCP-1N into a
modern-era striker platform by drastically improving both firepower and mobility.

After seeing the success of the Stalking Spider and several other quad-mechs among the Clans
during their so-called "Invasion" expert observers believed their rediscovered technologies
could perhaps benefit from going back over their "lesser, ill-received" former designs and
may give them an edge against the clanners [should they decide to end their promises of
    peace early.]

The "Striking Scorpion" dreams of such. It's design maintains the original movement profile
of the it's predecessor and, thanks to it's 330 rated XL Engine, now include enough jumpjets
to launch itself over tall terrain and down upon unsuspecting foes up to 180 meters away.

Although the chassis wasn't ready to receive the CASE upgrade, it was capable of handling
    eleven tons of Ferro-Fiberous Armor.
Without CASE, the engineers decided to abandon ammo-consuming weaponry for the time being
and pursue the energy weapons made available to them during this time period, thus prompting
them to also swap out the heat sinks for the double-strength variety.

Capabilities:
The Striking Scorpion relies on a combination of mobility and thick armor to close with it's
prey. Eleven tons of ferro-fiberous armor and enough jumpjets to vault the Scorpion up to
180 meters help accomplish this task.

For it's main armament, the original PPC in the right torso has been replaced with a
snub-nosed model, eliminating the chance for electro-static feedback when firing at
    point-plank.

Backing up the PPC are a pair of Medium Pulse lasers which protrude from the left-torso
[where the missile rack once was]. Room was made for a pair of small pulse lasers in the
center torso - one rear firing, one forward - designed for anti-infantry work. An advanced
targeting computer was also installed to help improve upon the accuracy of the Scorpion's
"gait" as well as help alleviate some of the shock of firing while using jumping movement.

Because of the reduced ranges, the Striking Scorpion must choose it's opponent wisely and
close with them only after softening them up with their primary weapon. Pilots are
encouraged to use their jump jets frequently, as well as find suitable cover in whatever
environment they happen to be in.

Deployment:
So far, the only "Striking Scorpions" to see combat are found among those in the Lyran
Commonwealth fighting near the Falcon front. Although technically field upgrades of
mothballed SCP-1N, the results have been quite convincing; the Falcons are terribly used to
the normal Steiner "Wall O Steel" and seeing these quad-mechs leaping from cover to cover,
over high hills, or skittering in behind their own flankers and hitting with accuracy has
ruffled quite a few feathers. Full scale production is planned for the near future, but it
all depends on the outcome of the Civil War... .

Variants:
The weight gained by switching out the standard 330 engine to an XL version greatly expands
the -11 Series armament capabilities beyond the original -1N. Beyond the initial version,
simulations indicated the the possibility of restoring the original 6-rack SRMs or possibly
upgrading to the multi-missile launchers though the design could most definitely benefit
from having CASE mounted in either side torso location.

There is also talk of upgrading the laser to the X-pulse variants, though the spike in heat
may cause concern for the pilots in the field. Substituting the snub-nose PPC with the
Heavy variant is also among the rumors, though the sheer weight of the device may require an
entirely new chassis to mount one.

Being so close to the front lines with the Falcons, Clan salvage is also a great
possibility, though there are better 'Mechs to upgrade than the Scorpion -1N...
