Overview:
    Following the successful upgrade of the Banshee to the Banshee II in 2754, the SLDF began a
    massive project to upgrade other 'Mechs for its Royal formations.  Among those chosen was
    the 'Mech of choice for commanders--the Cyclops.

Capabilities:
    Endo-steel internal structure formed the core of this new 'Mech, along with 10 double heat
    sinks replacing the 12 standards of the original model.  All of the weight saved went into
    increasing the armor from 10 tons to 16.5 tons of standard composite plating.  This one
    change alone brought rave reviews from the commanding officers assigned to the older model
    Cyclops.
    Engineers removed the massive AC-20 and ammunition as well, fitting one of the new and light
    LB-10X guns in its place.  This saved five tons and doubled the range of the Cyclops main
    weapon as well.  The SRM-4 launcher was removed and replaced with a SRM-6 model, along with
    Artemis IV Fire-Control Systems and a ton of ammo.  The LRM-10 was retained, but gained
    Artemis IV FCS and a second ton of ammunition.  CASE was added to both torsoes as well.  The
    engineers decided to retain both of the medium lasers of the original design.
    This new Cyclops II was much better as a commander's Mech.  Still mobile enough to move
    across the battlefield, now it had guns that could reach out and touch an opponent, if for
    less overall damage than before.  The massive increase in armor, however, made field
    commanders estatic.
    The best news for the SLDF, though, was the price.  10,657,860 Star League dollars was a
    mere 1,440,200 more than the older model--a steal by any measure for the increase in
    survivability.

Deployment:
    Assigned exclusively to Royal formations, the Cyclops II was never abundant enough to be
    given tasks other than the one it was designed for--command and control.  Given to either a
    CO or XO of a Battalion or Regiment, these 'Mechs allowed SLDF Royal units to function on
    the move with command and control normally restricted to slow moving and vulnerable HQ
    vehicles.  Nearly every Royal Battalion and Regiment had at least one of these command
    'Mechs, but few had more than that.
    After the Liberation, Kerensky conducted a survey of units that survived.  In that study, he
    was stunned to learn that Royal units equipped with the Cyclops II had 64% fewer casulaties
    among the officers assigned to the 'Mech as 'normal' SLDF units equipped with the older
    model.  Most of the Cyclops IIs left the Inner Sphere on the Exodus along with Kerensky just
    a few short years later.

Variants:
    The only variant was the Cyclops II-A, which removed the LRM-10 launcher, ammo, and A-IV FCS
    and replaced it with 4 jump jets.  This unit was assigned to more mobile battalions and
    regiments.  Few survived the Liberation.

Notable MechWarriors:
    Major Amy Winters was given her Cyclops II-A ('Evil Eye') after being reassigned to
    Kerensky's personnel guard detail just before the Invasion of Terra.  Landing in Moscow, she
    found herself coordinating the General's guard as well as acting as his bodyguard.  During
    the drive on the Unity City later in the campaign, Major Winters placed her 'Mech between
    the General and four Rim World Hetzers that had ambushed them as they retreated.  Despite
    heavy armor damage, she did withdraw after the General and called in thirty-two Arrow IV
    bombardment missiles on the slow moving Hetzers as they pulled back across the Columbia
    river.
    Years later, now-Colonel Winters was scheduled to board ship for the Exodus, remaining the
    commander of the General's personal guard, but was killed by a drunk driver three days
    before she was scheduled to lift from Terra.
