Overview:
    The Basilisk was first concieved around 2760. Its original intention was to act  in policing
    actions and riot supression as well as infantry fighting. It actually saw production from
    around 3022 until 3028 when the factory took heavy damage during the Succession Wars.

Capabilities:
    The original Basilisk is a firestorm of machine gun fire with twelve machine guns and 200
    rounds of ammunition. These are backed up by the two medium lasers to discourage following
    armor or light mechs as the pilot pulls the Basilisk out of harms way. A single rear mounted
    small laser provides token rear protection. Five jumpjets give the Basilisk decent mobility.
    Unfortunately, at the time of production, the ability to imbue the mech with advanced ECM
    suites and early detection electronics had been lost. The Star League era design had
    included a BEAGLE probe, extralight engine, and an ECM suite.

Deployment:
    The Basilisk is still in service with the Stonkin Mechs Inc mercenary unit as well as the
    Ground Zero Salvage and Technology security staff. No other unit or House appear to possess
    or use the design.

Variants:
    There were several variants of the Basilisk actually produced. The 2F removed all machine
    guns and ammunition and placed three medium lasers in each arm. With only fourteen
    heatsinks, this machine tended to overheat easily if the pilot was not careful. The  4D
    mountes and SRM6 launcher in each arm with one ton of ammunition. This version also loses
    one medium laser and carries just eleven heatsinks. The 4E turns the Basilisk into a
    wanna-be support platform with a LRM5 launcher in each arm and one tone of ammunition. The
    4E loses one medium laser and retains the standard ten heatsinks. The 5E was the final
    variant produced and gave the Basilisk  a bit more of a bite. The left arm still retains the
    six machine guns, while the right arm mounts a large laser.No medium lasers and eleven
    heatsinks round out the final Basilisk. The 5E was actually the more popular variant and
    seemed to outsell even the basic design.
