Overview:
    The Marian Hegemony, where both cash and high technology are in short supply, recently
    modified an aging Stinger production line to produce a unique downgraded version, the 8R.
    Using only locally produced parts the 8R nearly matches the earlier model's performance at
    less than 80% of the cost.  Money saved from the conversion is already earmarked for
    purchase of high-tech units from the Inner Sphere.
    
    
    
    The 8R is intended to bolster local garrisons against raids or insurrections, as well as
    provide increased anti-mech capability over the venerable 3R.

Capabilities:
    In exchange for a minor drop in speed and jump capability, the 8R mounts 33% more armor than
    the original 3R version.  More importantly, 4 single shot rocket launchers provide a
    tremendous temporary increase in firepower.  The firing ports are covered with easily
    replaceable covers, jettisoned at the moment of launch, which hide them from visual
    examination and even many electronic sensors. Until the moment of launch, only an active
    probe or careful short-range observation can distinguish the 8R from the common 3R.

Deployment:
    To date, several modified Stingers have been assigned to scattered city garrisons across the
    Hegemony.  Each has received a custom paint job to make the mech appear to be a worn and
    patched 3R variant.
