Overview:
    A versatile weapons platform has been the hallmark of the Crusader design since it's
    inception back in the the Star League era. Working in concert with Free Worlds League
    manufacturers, House Liao has embarked on an ambitious upgrade package for it's ailing
    Crusaders. Requiring a complete over haul, which many thought was needed anyway, the new
    design has corrected some of the faults that has plagued the design throughout it's service
    history.

Capabilities:
    The CRD-5L retains House Liao's jump capacity and mobility. However it does this with the
    incorporation of an XL engine and Endosteel structural components instead of the reduction
    of weaponry. The LRM 10's were replaced with LRM 15's and the SRM 4's replaced with SRM 6's.
    Also the ammo bins were doubled in size to accomidate longer battle life. The medium lasers
    were retained but the MG's were dropped all together. An AMS system was installed in the
    head for a 360 degrree arc of fire and two tons of ammo for it placed in the torso. Also,
    the armor load was increased to 13 tons and 2 CASE systems were implanted into the two side
    torsos. While an ammo explosion will still cripple the mech, it will allow for the vehicle
    to be repaired and the pilot to survive. Also the normal contigent of 10 heatsinks were
    replacecd with 10 double strength heatsinks.

Deployment:
    So far the newer design has yet to see combat. The upgrades are coming in from Marik space
    at a suprising rate considering the recent strains in the ruling house' relations. House
    Liao is sending Crusaders to Irian Mechworks for overhaul and then the completed designs are
    being sent back to there units. To cover any lapse in time while the mechs were gone the
    military had issued some older designs to the units affected. Mainly old Striker and Charger
    designs.
