Overview:
    The SHD-3K model is the result of a study carried out by engineers of the Luthien Iron Works
    Battlemech factory as part of a larger effort to increase the efficiency and effectiveness
    of DCMS battlemech designs.  The design team was struck by the SHD-2K's failure to even
    match the performance of the Griffin.  Studying the two 'mechs further, they realized the
    SHD-2K's designers had overestimated the heat produced by the Lord's Light PPC mounted on
    the Shadow Hawk's shoulder.  While the SHD-2K was one of the coolest running medium 'mechs
    in the DCMS as a result of this mistake, it was also seriously deficient in short-range
    firepower.

Capabilities:
    The SHD-3K is a quantum leap ahead of the SHD-2K.  This Shadow Hawk is capable of providing
    a punishing barrage at long range, but also carries the medium laser and SRM pack found on
    other Shadow Hawk variants.  The 3K has been found to be more than a match for most
    Wolverine or Griffin variants, and fulfills the potential for a jack of all trades 'mech
    inherent in the Shadow Hawk concept.

Deployment:
    The DCMS has wholeheartedly embraced the SHD-3K as the next generation of DCMS Shadow Hawks,
    and is encouraging all regimental commanders to order the refit.  The refit process itself
    is relatively simple, as the weapons mounts for the SRM-2 and medium laser already exist on
    the chassis of the Shadow Hawk.   In well-equipped regiments, such as the Sword of Light
    regiments and the premier District regiments close to 50% of 2Ks have been converted into
    3Ks, but many DCMS regiments, barely able to keep up with regular maintenance, lack the
    resources for such a refit, and little help has been offered to such regiments by the
    central command.  Some SHD-2Hs in Kurita service have also been converted into 3Ks.
    
    
    
    The extra heat burden caused concern for some, who believed pilots used to the very
    forgiving heat curve on the 2K would regularly overheat the 3K.  The DCMS has instituted
    training programs for pilots of the newly converted 'mech similar to the training given to
    new Grand Dragon pilots, stressing heat management.  Overall, the 3K is an adequately cooled
    'mech, as long a pilots remember to use the weapons at the ranges they are intended for.
