Overview:
    The AS7-D2 was designed as an enhanced variant of the AS7-D by the end of the succession
    wars by house Steiner. It was a prototype until 3048, and was pushed into full development
    as a multi-range threat in time for the clan invasion. It sticks to the heritage of the
    AS7-D, by utilizing most of the same type of armament. It retains four medium lasers,
    turning two to dace the front, and increasing their range. It retains the LRM 20 pack, but
    strengthens it with an Artemis IV targeting system. The SRM's are double and enhanced with
    the streak variant. The only change was the AC/20 to the longer range, and more reliable
    gauss rifle.

Capabilities:
    This Atlas variant is lethal at long range, combining a PPC, Gauss rifle, and LRM 20 pack.
    It serves to control given areas at a long distance, keeping targets away. However, whenever
    the opponent decides to close the distance, this Variant was also given two streak SRM 6
    launchers for brutal close range damage, and ER medium lasers to handle the transition from
    long range to short range. Equipped with 19.5 tons of standard armor, it is like the normal,
    slow Atlas of old. But now, the Atlas is using state of the art inner sphere weapons
    technology to fight the clans, and whoever else steps into its warpath.

Deployment:
    This mech was deployed as a prototype on Gneizo, then house Steiner was fighting for control
    of the planet, leaving a few damaged prototypes that they thought were lost. Prototypes were
    also deployed into Planets on the fringes of Kurita's territory, but those models were
    either undamaged, or completely destroyed. Finally the Full scale production model was
    thrown into service at the time of the clan invasion. It was thought that it would aid in
    turning the tide of the war, however, with the Atlas AS7-D2 unable to take a Mad Cat head
    on, a mech that weighs 25 tons less, The Atlas now serves as long range support as a last
    stand of defense.
