When it was first seen on the battlefield, the Jenner IIC came as a great surprise and
embarrassment to the DCMS. Feeling that one of their personal designs had been stolen by
their new great enemy, it became a matter of national pride to some to take control of
?their? design again. One engineering team decided to beat the Clams at their own game, and
came up with a heavily modified machine for consideration for production.
The new design matched the Clan model in both ground speed and mobility, being able to reach
150+ mph in straight-line runs and leap up to 210 meters at a time. At the same time, it
retained the classic model?s winning combination of 4 medium bore lasers and 4 pack of
short-range missiles fed by a single ton of ammunition. Defensively, the new prototype was
protected by 4 tons of the latest ferro-fibrous advanced armor, with the SRM ammunition
being enclosed in a CASE storage system.
Of course, to obtain these capabilities did require some sacrifice; in this case, both an
endo-steel frame and a large, expensive extra-light engine. Combined with its other systems,
these features would drive the price of just one of these ?Mechs to over 7.25 million
C-Bills. The budget for the DCMS would not be able to support the large numbers of these
units that would be called for, so, unfortunately, the design would languish for several
decades, until new concerns brought it back to light, in an even further modified form.
