A more tonnage-efficient, faster, but slightly less armored version of the infamous
Whitworth, used by the Free Worlds League.

Mounting four LRM-5's in place of the two LRM-10's of the original Whitworth, the WTH-1M
uses the extra tonnage freed by doing so (as well as by stripping half a ton of armor from
the chassis) to increase the size of the 'mech's engine to allow it greater mobility, making
it less likely to be left behind by other 'Mechs in its weight class. This upgrade also
increases its pursuit capabilities when facing smaller, faster 'Mechs, and with the four
separate LRM racks in place of the two of the original, it has a better chance to at least
partially damage its enemies. It can also utilize volley fire to save ammunition, capable
of dropping only 25% of its maximum potential damage output if one LRM rack is reserved,
rather than dropping by 50% if it were to do so with the original weaponry.

While few entirely new Whitworths are built to these specifications, many more have been
refit to WTH-1M standards in the field. Several production centers offer official refit
kits to facilitate this. The WTH-1M often finds itself either providing long-range punch to
light and medium scout formations, or giving fire support to heavier assets. Some units
even use it as a medium command 'Mech as well due to the adaptability granted by its
increased speed, although this is relatively rare due to the stigma surrounding the chassis.
