Overview:
    In 3016,the New Avalon Institute of Science opened its doors, heralding the end of
    Humanity's technological decline. Project Revenant, headed by Dr. Jorge Belasco, was one of
    the many new programs instituted at the NAIS. Its purpose was to restart the manufacture of
    new BattleMech designs. Dr. Belasco chose the Phoenix Hawk as a test bed to develop a new
    special operations BattleMech.  The result was the Vampire prototype. Before the 'Mech could
    proceed with test trials, Dr. Belasco was transferred to Project Phoenix on Hoff. His work
    there was revolutionary (in particular his experimental "freezer" heat sinks), but ended in
    3022 after a raid from Wolf's Dragoons. Belasco returned to his work on the Vampire,
    finishing the design, testing and manufacturing process by 3025.

Capabilities:
    The Vampire is designed to operate behind enemy lines as a infiltrator, saboteur, and
    guerrilla fighter. To that end it was based on the tried and true Phoenix Hawk, with which
    it shares many components, including much of its electronics, its Pitban 9000 jump jets and
    Harmon medium lasers. Because of its laser-based primary weaponry, heavy armor, speed,
    maneuverability and easy of maintenance, the Vampire excels in its purpose. The Bical SRM
    Twin-Rack is common, dependable and often loaded with inferno rounds due to the nature of
    the missions the 'Mech is usually sent on. A design characteristic that unfortunately
    couldn't be realized was a carousel magazine that would have allowed a variety of SRM
    warheads in the 1 ton of ammo the BattleMech carried. The Vampire can easily run hot if a
    MechWarrior is reckless or hard pressed, but its ease of handling and ruggedness has won
    approval from those who have piloted it, most of whom are experienced enough to deal with
    this shortcoming. Dr. Belasco's experimental "freezer" heat sink technology proved to be
    incompatible with the Vampire's power plant and cooling systems. Therefore, only elite
    MechWarriors have been assigned to Vampires.

Deployment:
    A small number of Vampires are now being produced by Archenar BattleMechs on New Avalon. The
    new BattleMech has so far only been assigned to elite Mechwarriors in the 4th Davion Guards,
    7th Crucis Lancers and Team Banzai. Several of the 'Mechs have seen action either through
    attacks perpetrated by House Kurita, or raids launched by the Federated Suns itself. One
    such incident occurred on Deshler. Beta and Gamma regiments of Wolf's Dragoons had landed on
    the world to tie down the 4th Davion Guards so that it couldn't intervene in the Draconis
    Combine's invasion of Galtor III. During a push by Beta to take a 'Mech factory, the 4th
    Davion Guards were able to ambush the Dragoons in a lowland jungle valley. Leading the
    encircling forces of the ambush, Captain Gloriana Quinn managed to surround one of the merc
    regiment's companies, personally taking down the commanding Phoenix Hawk, a Hornet and a
    Wasp with her Vampire before Dragoon reinforcements arrived to drive her unit off. So far,
    no Vampires have been lost to enemy action.

Variants:
    No variants of the Vampire have been produced at this time.

Notable MechWarriors:
    Captain Gloriana Quinn - Coming from an old MechWarrior family from Belladonna, Quinn was
    born and raised to be a MechWarrior.  She attended  the Sakhara Academy, graduating with
    honors. Even so, the family Ostroc and Enforcer had gone to her two older brothers. She was
    assigned a Valkyrie BattleMech upon graduation and posted to the 4th Davion Guards. She
    quickly earned promotion due to her skills in reconnaissance and raiding.  When the Vampire
    became available in 3025, she was one of the first MechWarriors to be assigned one. Quinn
    has named her new 'Mech "Vlad" and has painted black bats all over it.  Nine bats however
    are red, representing her total kills to date.
